Medical Description

Mepresso D suspension for injection is used for short-term control of severe inflammation, allergic reactions and immune-related conditions. This can relieve swelling, pain, itching and other inflammatory symptoms in the joints, skin, eyes, lungs, bowel and other tissues. Mepresso D suspension for injection is prepared and given by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic, and regular or repeated treatment must not be stopped suddenly without medical advice.

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Mepresso D injection is not usually recommended during pregnancy because possible fetal risk has been reported. Your doctor may use it only when the expected benefit outweighs the risk.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Driving

Driving

Dizziness, fatigue or blurred vision may affect driving. Do not drive or operate machinery if these symptoms occur.

  • Check blood sugar as advised if you have diabetes.
  • Avoid close contact with people who have contagious infections.
  • Do not stop repeated corticosteroid treatment without medical advice.

Dosage

Overdose

An overdose may cause severe mood changes, high blood sugar, high blood pressure, stomach bleeding or worsening infection. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Methylprednisolone reduces the production of chemical messengers that cause redness, swelling, pain and allergic reactions. It also suppresses an overactive immune response, which helps reduce inflammation in affected tissues and limits attacks on the body's own organs.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Mepresso D injection works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, blood thinners such as warfarin may have altered effects and can change bleeding or clotting risk; diabetes medicines may work less well because methylprednisolone can raise blood sugar; nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory painkillers can increase stomach ulcer or bleeding risk; and live vaccines may cause infection or work less well while immunity is suppressed. Also mention typhoid, inactivated cholera or recombinant shingles vaccines, chloroquine, loperamide, vigabatrin, iohexol or other contrast medicines, because the combination may need medical review.

Interactions with food items

No specific food interaction is established.
