Mode of Action of Mepred 16 MG
How Does It Work?
Methylprednisolone is a glucocorticoid that suppresses certain chemicals responsible for inflammation and allergic symptoms.
Directions for Use of Mepred 16 MG
- Mepred 16mg tablets should be taken as prescribed by your doctor
- Do not chew, crush or break the tablet in half
- Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water
Interactions of Mepred 16 MG
Interactions with other medicines
- Concomitant use of cyclosporin and methylprednisolone results in a mutual inhibition of the metabolisms and may also result in convulsions
- Hepatic enzyme-inducing medicines such as phenytoin, rifampin may increase the clearance of methylprednisolone
- Ketoconazole and troleandomycin may inhibit the metabolism of methylprednisolone, thereby decreasing its clearance
- An increase in the clearance of chronic high dose aspirin is observed when taken with methylprednisolone
- Anticoagulants, when used with methylprednisolone, have shown varied effects like enhanced or diminished effects of anticoagulants
- Co-administration of anticonvulsants with methylprednisolone may lead to affected hepatic clearance of methylprednisolone
- Isoniazid, when co-administered with methylprednisolone, may increase the acetylation rate and clearance of isoniazid
- Co-administration with NSAIDs may increase the incidence of gastrointestinal bleeding and ulceration
- An acute myopathy has been reported when concomitant use of high doses of anticholinergics and corticosteroids are taken simultaneously
Storage and disposal of Mepred 16 MG
- Store below 30°C in a cool and dry place
- Keep the medication away from children and pets
- Keep the medicine away from heat and moisture
- Do not flush the expired or unused medicines. Discuss with the pharmacist or doctor about the safe way of disposal of tablet
Dosage of Mepred 16 MG
Overdose
Contact your doctor or rush to the nearest hospital in case of overdose if you observe symptoms like muscle cramps, weakness and lightheadedness.
Missed a Dose
If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. However, if your next dose is approaching, skip the dose and go back to your regular dosage regimen. Do not panic, and do not take two doses at once....
