Medical Description
Melacare Cream is a prescription medication used to treat melasma, a skin condition that causes brown or dark patches on the face. It works by combining three active ingredients: hydroquinone, which helps lighten dark spots; mometasone, which reduces inflammation; and tretinoin, which promotes skin cell turnover for a smoother complexion.
This cream should be applied exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually in a thin layer on affected areas. Avoid contact with your eyes, mouth, and genital areas, and always wash your hands after application. Using it more frequently than prescribed does not speed up results and may increase the risk of side effects.
Common side effects may include skin irritation, redness, burning, or dryness. These effects usually subside with time, but if they worsen or persist, consult your doctor immediately. People with sensitive skin or underlying skin conditions should inform their doctor before starting this cream.
Always use sunscreen and protective clothing while using Melacare Cream, as sun exposure can worsen melasma and reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. Avoid applying the cream immediately before sun exposure or tanning, and do not use it on broken or infected skin.
Other medications containing the same combination of ingredients include Skinlite cream, No Scar cream, Skinshine cream, Hhlite cream, and Melamet cream. In case the cream accidentally comes into contact with the eyes, rinse the eyes thoroughly with water and seek medical advice if irritation continues.

Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
- Hydroquinone inhibits an enzyme known as tyrosinase, which is responsible for the production of a pigment called melanin. Melanin is responsible for skin pigmentation and melasma.
- Tretinoin is a metabolite of vitamin A and is keratolytic. It is responsible for the elimination of melanin that has been formed. It also has anti-inflammatory properties.
- Mometasone is a corticosteroid and it works by blocking the production of inflammatory chemicals like prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Mometasone narrows and constricts blood vessels, which are dilated (widened) and leaky and allowing other inflammatory cells into the skin to promote the inflammatory response.
