Medical Description
Macitent tablet is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). It contains macitentan as its main active ingredient. It is an endothelin receptor antagonist. PAH is high blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries, which narrow, causing the heart to work harder to pump blood. This leads to tiredness, dizziness, and shortness of breath. This medicine widens these arteries, easing the heart's pumping effort, lowering blood pressure, relieving symptoms, and slowing disease progression.
Take this medication as directed by your doctor, ideally at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush or chew it. You can take it with or without food. Potential side effects include a decrease in red blood cells, headaches, airway inflammation, swelling in the throat and nasal passages, and particularly swelling in the ankles and feet.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Also, about all other medicines you are taking or may take, as these might affect the way Macitent works.
