Medical Description
Lucaparib tablet is a PARP inhibitor used to treat certain ovarian, fallopian tube, primary peritoneal, and prostate cancers. It is used as maintenance treatment for recurrent ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer in adults with a BRCA mutation who have achieved a complete or partial response to platinum-based chemotherapy. In prostate cancer, it is used for BRCA-mutated metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) following androgen receptor-directed therapy.
Lucaparib tablet blocks PARP enzymes involved in repairing damaged DNA. In cancer cells with defective DNA-repair mechanisms, such as those with BRCA mutations, this causes DNA damage to accumulate and can lead to cancer-cell death.
Lucaparib tablet is taken as prescribed by your doctor, with or without food. Take it exactly as directed and do not change the dose without medical advice. Report unusual or persistent bruising or bleeding, as this may indicate a reduction in blood-cell counts.
Common side effects include nausea, fatigue, vomiting, diarrhoea, reduced appetite, and anemia. Taste changes and increased sensitivity to sunlight may also occur. Serious effects include significant reductions in blood-cell counts and other bone marrow problems. Regular blood tests, with liver and kidney tests as clinically indicated, help monitor for these effects.
Before starting treatment, tell your doctor about all medical conditions, previous chemotherapy, and all medicines, vitamins, supplements, and herbal products you take. Lucaparib tablet may harm an unborn baby, and breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment. Use sun protection if you develop increased sensitivity to sunlight, and avoid driving or operating machinery if dizziness, fatigue, or other symptoms affect your alertness.

How does this medicine work?
- {cb}} tablet is a PARP inhibitor that blocks PARP enzymes, which help repair DNA damage. In cancer cells with a weakened DNA-repair system, such as those with a BRCA mutation, this blockade overwhelms their repair capacity.
- As unrepaired DNA damage accumulates, the cancer cell can no longer function and ultimately dies. This makes Lucaparib tablet particularly effective against cancers associated with BRCA mutations, as these cells rely heavily on the disrupted repair pathways.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Lucaparib tablet can raise blood levels of medicines broken down by liver enzymes (CYP1A2, CYP3A, CYP2C9, CYP2C19), potentially increasing side effects.
- If you take warfarin, your doctor may need to check INR more often.
- Medicines processed by the same liver enzyme pathways asLucaparib tablet, including some hormonal contraceptives, may have their levels affected during combined use.
- Always inform your doctor and pharmacist about all medications, vitamins, supplements, or herbal products you take or plan to take. They can check for interactions before and during your treatment withLucaparib tablet.
