Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Lithocent Cr Tablet has Lithium as its main ingredient. It works mainly in the brain and central nervous system and interacts with many chemical messengers and receptors. This helps decrease norepinephrine release and increase the production of serotonin (both are chemical messengers). This may lead to stabilised mood and reduce the excess activity in the brain.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Diabetic medications may be affected by Lithocent Cr Tablets. Blood glucose levels must be closely monitored.
  • Medicines like Furosemide can raise Lithium levels. It is not a good idea to take these two simultaneously. The combination can cause sleepiness, muscle weakness, double vision, and vomiting.
  • Some medicines that lower high blood pressure, such as captopril and enalapril, can raise Lithium levels. Do not take them simultaneously.
  • Using antipsychotic medicines like Haloperiol with Lithocent Cr Tablets can cause serious side effects like lethargy, fever, confusion, and even brain damage.
  • Using or discontinuing NSAID medicines such as paracetamol should be closely monitored. Interaction between these two medicines can lead to Lithium toxicity.

Interactions with food items

  • Try to avoid Caffeine, as it may reduce the amount of Lithium in the body, reducing the effectiveness of this medicine.
  • A low-sodium or a salt-restricted diet can decrease the excretion of Lithocent Cr Tablets from the body. This can lead to a risk of Lithium toxicity in patients who eat less salt. Changing to a higher salt diet may quickly remove the Lithium from the body. However, an increase in sodium might result in the return of mood disorder symptoms. So, a well-balanced salt intake is necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

No. Avoid suddenly stopping using Lithocent Cr Tablets. It may take a few weeks for this medicine to work. Also, do not take more tablets than advised by your doctor. This medicine can easily cause Lithium toxicity, even when on the recommended dose. So, never exceed the dose. If you do not notice any difference even after a few weeks, consult your doctor.

Lithocent Cr Tablets have the potential to cause weight gain. If you think you are gaining or losing too much weight, talk to your doctor about it. The doctor can determine whether the weight gain or loss is due to this tablet or something else. Try to exercise regularly and have healthy food to maintain your weight.

Lithocent Cr Tablets are approved for treating acute manic episodes in children over 12. If the child is 12 years or younger, these tablets may be recommended in some cases. Lithocent Cr Tablet is a prescription medication and should be only given to a child if a doctor has prescribed it. Do not give this medicine to a child on your own.
