Other General Warnings

• You have kidney problems
• You have signs and symptoms of depression
• You or your family has a history of irregular heartbeats
• You have suicidal thoughts
• Your epilepsy worsens

• Take Levipil 1g Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
• It may be taken with or without food.
• Take your doses at the same times each day, usually twice daily.
• Do not stop or change the dose without your doctor's advice.
• Keep a seizure diary and bring it to your appointments.

• Keep Levipil Tablet out of children's sight and reach
• Do not use Levipil Tablet after expiry date
• Store at 25 degrees Celsius

• Levipil 1g Tablet controls seizures by acting on SV2A, a protein in nerve endings, which is a different target from older epilepsy medicines.
• Never stop this medicine suddenly, as abrupt withdrawal can trigger prolonged and dangerous seizures.
• Take it at the same times every day; missed doses are among the commonest causes of breakthrough seizures.
• Tell your doctor promptly about irritability, aggression, low mood or anxiety, especially in children and teenagers.
• Seek urgent help for any thoughts of self-harm.
• Avoid alcohol, and protect your sleep, as both alcohol and sleep loss can provoke seizures.
• Do not drive until your seizures are controlled and you know how the medicine affects you.
• Avoid swimming alone, working at heights and operating machinery while you feel drowsy or unsteady.
• Tell your doctor about kidney problems, as the dose depends on your kidney function.
• Report any rash, particularly with fever, blistering or mouth ulcers, immediately.
• If you are planning a pregnancy, speak to your doctor beforehand rather than stopping the medicine yourself.
• Keep a seizure diary and carry identification stating that you have epilepsy.

Interactions with other medicines

• Some medicines can affect the way Levipil Tablet works, or this medicine itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
• Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements, or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
• It has been observed that taking levetiracetam and methotrexate together reduces methotrexate clearance, resulting in higher/longer blood methotrexate concentrations that are potentially hazardous.
• Co-administration of levetiracetam and a laxative called macrogol may decrease the efficacy of levetiracetam. Hence, use macrogol one hour before or after using levetiracetam.

Interactions with food items

• Levipil 1g Tablet may be taken with or without food, and no specific food needs to be avoided. Taking it after a meal can help if you find it causes mild nausea.
• Alcohol should be avoided. Beyond adding to drowsiness and unsteadiness, drinking and the disrupted sleep that follows are common triggers for breakthrough seizures.
• Regular meals and a consistent sleep routine matter more than most people realise in epilepsy. Skipped meals, dehydration and sleep deprivation all lower the seizure threshold.
• Grapefruit juice, which interferes with many medicines, does not meaningfully affect levetiracetam, because the medicine is not processed by the liver enzyme that grapefruit blocks.
• If your doctor has advised a specific diet for epilepsy, such as a ketogenic diet for a child, follow it under supervision alongside the medicine.
