Medical Description

L Flox tablet is an antibiotic used to treat selected bacterial infections of the lungs, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, and ear, nose and throat. It contains levofloxacin, which blocks bacterial enzymes needed for genetic material to be copied and repaired. This stops susceptible bacteria from multiplying and can kill them. L Flox tablet is swallowed whole with water, with or without food, only for the infection and treatment plan prescribed by a doctor. It does not treat viral colds or flu.

  • Respiratory infections: Levofloxacin treats selected bacterial infections affecting the lungs, including pneumonia and bronchitis, when it is appropriate.
  • Urinary tract infections: It treats certain bacterial infections of the bladder or kidneys after medical assessment.
  • Skin and soft tissue infections: It can treat susceptible bacterial infections involving the skin and tissues beneath it.
  • Ear, nose and throat infections: It may treat selected bacterial infections in these areas when prescribed by a doctor.

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine or have had a serious reaction to a related quinolone antibiotic, do not take it. Do not use it for viral colds or flu.

Side effects

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or trying to conceive. Levofloxacin is used in pregnancy only when a doctor considers it necessary.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Your doctor will assess whether levofloxacin is suitable and whether breastfeeding needs special advice.

Driving

Driving

L Flox tablet may cause dizziness, drowsiness or visual disturbance. Do not drive or use machinery until you know how it affects you.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Avoid alcohol if it increases dizziness or drowsiness while using L Flox tablet.

Directions for Use

Take L Flox tablet as a whole with sufficient water. It may be taken with or without food. Do not take it together with milk, calcium-rich drinks, iron, zinc, magnesium or antacids; ask your doctor how to separate these products. Complete the prescribed course unless your doctor tells you to stop.

Storage and disposal

Store L Flox tablet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it out of the reach and sight of children. Dispose of unused tablets according to local guidance.

Quick Tips

  • Take L Flox tablet exactly as prescribed and complete the treatment plan advised by your doctor.
  • Keep it separate from antacids, iron, zinc, calcium or magnesium products as instructed.
  • Stop strenuous activity and contact your doctor for tendon pain or swelling.
  • Report numbness, tingling, burning pain, severe diarrhoea or unusual palpitations promptly.
  • Stop and seek emergency help for breathing difficulty or swelling of the face, lips or throat.

Dosage

Overdose

Too much levofloxacin may cause nausea, dizziness, confusion, tremors or heart rhythm problems. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Levofloxacin blocks bacterial enzymes required to copy and repair genetic material. Susceptible bacteria then stop multiplying and die, helping the body clear the infection.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way L Flox tablet works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, mention antacids, iron, zinc, calcium or magnesium supplements because they can lower levofloxacin absorption, warfarin and other blood thinners because bleeding may increase, insulin or other diabetes medicines because blood sugar may change, heart rhythm medicines because rhythm problems may increase, and corticosteroids because tendon injury risk may increase.

Interactions with food items

Milk, cheese, curd and other calcium-rich foods or drinks can reduce levofloxacin absorption when taken together. Separate them from L Flox tablet as advised by your doctor. Avoid alcohol if it worsens dizziness or drowsiness.
