Flagyl 400mg Tablet
Description
Flagyl 400mg Tablet is an antibiotic medicine used to treat various bacterial and parasitic infections. It contains metronidazole as the active ingredient, which works by stopping the growth of harmful bacteria and certain parasites. Flagyl is commonly prescribed for infections of the stomach, liver, skin, joints, brain, lungs, and other body parts. It is also used to treat certain sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and dental infections.
Some other brands containing metronidazole include Metron 400mg tablet, Metrogyl 400mg tablet, Metrocon 400mg tablet, Metropar 400mg tablet, and Aristogyl 400mg tablet. Your doctor will decide the dose and duration based on your infection type and severity. It’s important to complete the full course, even if you start feeling better, to prevent the infection from returning or becoming resistant to antibiotics.
How Flagyl 400mg works: Metronidazole kills the bacteria or parasites by damaging their DNA, which stops them from multiplying and spreading. This action helps clear the infection and reduces related symptoms such as fever, pain, swelling, or discharge. It is effective against both anaerobic bacteria (those that live without oxygen) and certain protozoa.
How to take Flagyl 400mg Tablet: Take the medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food, but taking it after meals may reduce the risk of stomach upset. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours after completing the course, as it may cause unpleasant reactions like nausea, vomiting, flushing, and headache.
While Flagyl 400mg Tablet is generally safe when used as directed, some people may experience mild side effects such as nausea, metallic taste, stomach discomfort, or dizziness. Rarely, it can cause serious side effects like allergic reactions or nerve problems. If you notice any unusual symptoms, contact your doctor immediately. Always use antibiotics responsibly and only under medical guidance to ensure effectiveness and safety.
