Directions for Use
- Farabine 20 Injection is given in hospital by a doctor or nurse experienced in cancer treatment.
- It is given as an infusion into a vein, in doses and treatment cycle fixed by your doctor.
- The dose, the number of treatment days and the interval between cycles are decided by your doctor.
- Fluids are usually given through the drip to protect the kidneys, and you may give other medicines to reduce the risk of complications.
- Blood counts and kidney and liver function are checked regularly during treatment.
- Never try to change, delay or skip a treatment on your own.
Storage and disposal
- Farabine 20 Injection is a hospital-administered medicine, so the pharmacy handles its storage, preparation and disposal.
- Store at 20 to 25 degrees Celsius, in the original carton.
- Do not freeze it.
- Keep it out of the reach of children.
- Do not use it after the expiry date printed on the pack.
- Unused product and waste are disposed of by the hospital in line with local requirements for cytotoxic medicines. Do not dispose of it yourself.
Quick Tips
- Report fever, chills or a sore throat immediately. With low white cell counts an infection can become serious very quickly, and this is the single most important thing to act on.
- Tell the team about unusual bruising, nosebleeds, blood in the stool or urine, or a headache that will not settle.
- Drink fluids as your team advises. Good hydration helps protect the kidneys during treatment.
- Report a drop in how much urine you are passing, or swelling of the legs.
- Report yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine or pain over the upper right abdomen.
- Tell your doctor at once about a widespread rash, or skin that blisters or peels.
