Medical Description

Evaparin Injection is a blood thinner medicine containing Enoxaparin as its active ingredient. It is used to prevent blood clots and for patients suffering from angina. It is also used as a precautionary medicine for patients who have undergone surgeries. It works by preventing blood clot formation and also prevents blockages in the blood vessels of the body. This medicine will be given in the hospital by your doctor or nurse as an injection. Do not self-inject this medicine. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding and about all the medicines and supplements you take and all the conditions or diseases you suffer from before starting this medicine. You should also inform your doctor if you are going for any surgery or operation or any procedure which involves epidural or spinal anaesthesia. As it can lead to the formation of clots in or around your spinal cord and can cause paralysis.

Uses

Evaparin Injection is used to prevent blood clot formation during orthopaedic surgery, general surgery and hemodialysis. It also prevents the formation of a blood clot after a heart attack, angina and prevents deep vein thrombosis. (formation of blood clots in a deep vein, especially in legs).

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to Enoxaparin or any other ingredients of Evaparin Injection.
  • If you are suffering from any blood disorder or have any bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract.
  • If you are allergic to other anticoagulants such as heparin

Pregnancy

This injection can be given to pregnant women. However, careful monitoring for bleeding or increased anticoagulation. This medicine should be discontinued before any anaesthetic procedure involving epidural anesthesia (anesthesia in the spinal column).

Breast Feeding

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You have any underlying medical condition and are on certain medications like painkillers, other anticoagulants, or antiplatelet medicines etc.
  • You have ever had an allergic reaction from consumption of heparin (anticoagulant).
  • You have had a heart valve fitted (artificial heart valve).
  • You have an infection of the inner lining of the heart (endocarditis).
  • You have a history of intestinal or stomach ulcers.
  • You have had a recent stroke, have high blood pressure or kidney problems.
  • You have diabetes or problems called diabetic retinopathy (affects blood vessels of eyes).
  • You have had an operation recently on your eyes or brain or spinal surgery.
  • You are elderly i.e. over 65 years of age.
  • You are underweight or overweight or have liver problems
  • You have been informed that there are high levels of potassium in your blood.

Directions for Use

  • Evaparin Injection will be given to you in the hospital by your doctor or nurse.
  • Do not self-inject this medicine.
  • Follow any instructions suggested by the doctor or nurse during the procedure or for aftercare.

Storage and disposal

  • Store this injection under the conditions that are mentioned on the pack.
  • Keep it away from children and pets.

Dosage

Overdose

  • Evaparin Injection will be given to you by a doctor or nurse and hence, it is less likely to get an overdose on this medicine.
  • However, if you experience severe bleeding from your nose, anus or gums right after taking this injection, please inform your doctor immediately. A significant overdose of this medicine could even lead to internal bleeding.

Missed a Dose

You will be monitored by your doctor or nurse with respect to when Evaparin Injection should be given to you. It is unlikely that the dose will be missed but if you think your doctor or nurse might have missed a dose, then do inform them.

How Does It Work?

  • Enoxaparin in Evaparin Injection works as an anticoagulant and prevents the existing blood clots from getting any bigger and helps your body to break down clots and stops them from causing you harm. It also stops new blood clots from forming in your blood vessels.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Evaparin Injection may interact with other medicines, discuss with your doctor about all the medicines, supplements or herbal preparations you are taking. Also, you should inform your doctor if you have a planned surgery or vaccination scheduled.
  • Medicines that are used to prevent or stop bleeding or can affect bleeding should not be taken along with this therapy. Such medicines include aspirin, warfarin, dextran, ibuprofen, diclofenac, ketorolac and steroids.
  • Tell your doctor if you are going to have a spinal or lumbar puncture or an operation where an epidural or spinal anaesthesia is used.

Interactions with food items

There is no known interaction with food. However, please inform your doctor if you encounter any food interaction with natural blood thinners like ginger, garlic and ginkgo.
