Medical Description

Evaira solution for injection contains eribulin mesylate, a prescription anticancer medicine belonging to the microtubule inhibitor class. It is a synthetic derivative of a compound originally isolated from a marine sponge. It is supplied as a clear, colourless sterile solution in a single-use vial and is administered by a trained healthcare professional

Evaira solution for injection is used in adults with metastatic breast cancer who have previously received at least one chemotherapy regimen, including an anthracycline and a taxane, when further treatment is appropriate.

It is given as an intravenous injection by a trained healthcare professional. The dose is based on body surface area and may be adjusted according to blood counts, liver function, and overall health.

Uses

Metastatic breast cancer in adults who have already received at least one prior chemotherapy regimen for metastatic disease, including an anthracycline and a taxane.

Dosage

Overdose

Overdose with Evaira solution for injection can cause a severe reduction in white blood cell counts and serious allergic reactions. There is no specific antidote; treatment involves immediate medical assessment, close monitoring, and supportive care. As it is administered by healthcare professionals, accidental overdose at home is unlikely.

Missed a Dose

  • If you miss your scheduled Evaira solution for injection dose on Day 1 or Day 8, contact your doctor or treatment centre as soon as possible. Do not take or receive an extra dose to make up for the missed dose.
  • Your doctor will decide whether to reschedule the dose or adjust the treatment cycle, depending on your blood counts and side effects.

How does this medicine work?

  • Eribulin in Evaira solution for injection works by interfering with microtubules, tiny structures cancer cells need to divide and multiply. By blocking the growth of these structures, eribulin prevents cancer cells from dividing normally and can lead to cancer cell death.
  • Studies have also shown that eribulin may reduce breast cancer cells' ability to move and invade nearby tissues. These additional effects have been observed in preclinical studies, and their clinical significance is not fully established.
  • Preclinical studies have also observed effects on tumour blood flow and oxygenation; their relevance to clinical outcomes has not been established.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Evaira solution for injection has low potential for significant interactions through CYP enzymes.
  • No clinically relevant interaction requiring dose adjustment has been identified with CYP3A4 or P-glycoprotein inhibitors.
  • Use caution with QT-prolonging medicines, as they may increase the risk of heart-rhythm problems.
  • Inform your doctor about all medicines, vitamins, supplements, and herbal products you take before starting treatment.

Interactions with food items

  • No specific food interactions are known, as Evaira solution for injection is given as an intravenous injection and not taken by mouth
  • Eating small, light, and frequent meals can help manage nausea, which is a common side effect
  • Drinking enough water and fluids throughout the day supports overall health and kidney function during treatment
  • Avoid alcohol during treatment, as it can worsen fatigue and nausea
