Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

No, Etoshine MR is intended only for short-term use, maximum 7 days should be used for the duration recommended by your doctor. If long-term use is required, your doctor may order regular monitoring as long term intake especially in high doses would increase the risk of heart attacks and stroke.
Yes, it may be used in elderly patients under medical supervision. The lowest effective dose should be used for the shortest possible duration (≤7 days). Caution is needed for drug–drug interactions because most older adults are on multiple medications (anticoagulants, antihypertensives, antiplatelets, diuretics).
No, it is not advised in children and adolescents below the age of 16 years. Both components of the medication lack adequate safety data in pediatric patients, not recommended for use in children
Etoshine MR is contraindicated in patients with active peptic ulceration or active GI bleeding, and must be used with caution in those with a prior history of ulcer or bleeding. Such patients should be started on the lowest effective dose, often co-prescribed with a gastro-protective agent. Any sign of GI bleeding like black or tarry stools, blood in vomit or stools, persistent stomach pain, warrants stopping the medicine and seeking immediate medical attention.
If pain, muscle spasm or swelling does not improve within 3–5 days of starting Etoshine MR, or if it worsens at any time, stop taking the medicine and consult your doctor for re-evaluation. If new symptoms appear (e.g. rash, swelling of face/throat, black stools, chest pain, yellowing of skin, reduced urination, seizures), stop the medicine immediately and seek urgent medical attention.
Do not take other pain-relieving medicines, especially NSAIDs (including ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, aspirin) unless advised by your doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects. If already on pre-prescribed NSAIDs, inform the doctor before starting the medication. Paracetamol may be considered as a safer alternative, but only after medical advice.
This medication should be used with caution if you have mild to moderate kidney disease due to its side effects on preexisting kidney diseases. It is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney disease. Routine monitoring would be required in such cases. Seek advice from your doctor to outweigh the risks over benefits.
This medication should be used with caution in patients with mild to moderate impaired liver functioning. It is not recommended in severe liver disease. Your doctor may advise periodic liver function tests and maintenance of ideal dosage to ensure safe use of this medication. Stop treatment and seek immediate medical advice if any symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, jaundice, dark urine, fatigue, abnormal liver enzyme levels develop.
