Medical Description

Esta Ls Tablet is a prescription medication. It contains a combination of Clonazepam and Escitalopram Oxalate as its active ingredients. It is used for the management of depression and anxiety. Depression is a mental health disorder that causes a person to feel excessively sad, angry and unmotivated. Anxiety is a mental health disorder that causes a person to have persistent feelings of fear, dread, worry and uneasiness about everyday situations. These disorders may lead to a decrease in quality of life. Escitalopram Oxalate helps manage these disorders by enhancing the effects of a chemical in the brain called serotonin. This, in turn, will reduce the symptoms of depression and anxiety. Clonazepam works by increasing the activity of a certain chemical known as GABA in the brain, which leads to a calming effect by relieving anxiety and creating a general sense of wellbeing. It is essential to only take this medication on prescription by a doctor, at the exact dose and for the entire duration prescribed.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

The pharmacological component of Esta Ls is a combination of two medications called Clonazepam and Escitalopram Oxalate. One of the main causes of depression is decreased amount of a chemical known as Serotonin in the brain. Escitalopram Oxalate enhances the activity of the available serotonin in the brain. This helps to control the symptoms of depression and anxiety. Clonazepam is a derivative of a group of medications called benzodiazepines. It acts by increasing the activity of a certain chemical in the brain called GABA (gamma-amino-butyric acid). GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter. This means that it is a chemical that sends suppressing signals to the nerves in the area where it is secreted. In people suffering from anxiety and depression, there is an excessive and abnormal activity of nerve cells in the brain. This activity can be suppressed by increasing the activity of GABA in the brain.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Co-administration of Tranylcypromine or other monoamine oxidases (MAO) inhibitors is not advisable. This can cause a dangerous increase in the level of serotonin. Co-administration with Tapentadol or other serotonergic agents is not recommended, as lt may increase the medicine's central nervous system depressant effects and precipitate a dangerous side effect called Serotonin Syndrome.
  • Co-administration with other benzodiazepines and strong painkillers like Tramadol is not recommended as it can potentiate its actions.
  • Co-administration with warfarin, NSAIDs(Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines), aspirin, or other medicines affecting coagulation is not recommended as this may lead to an increased risk of bleeding.
  • The metabolism of Clonazepam and Escitalopram Oxalate may be decreased with certain medicines. This may lead to their actions being prolonged. Co-administration of these medicines, including Cimetidine, Amoxicillin etc., is not recommended.
  • The metabolism of Clonazepam and Escitalopram Oxalate may be increased with certain medicines. This may lead to a decrease in its efficacy. Co-administration of these medicines, including rifampicin, linezolid, etc., is not recommended.
