Medical Description

Esole Granules belongs to the classification of medicines known as proton-pump inhibitors. The primary medicine in the composition of this medicine is esomeprazole.

Uses of Esole Granules

This medicine restricts the production of acid in the stomach. The primary uses of Esole Granules are to prevent the formation of ulcers in the stomach and oesophagus by controlling the amount of acid secreted, prevent ulcers in the first and shortest portion of the small intestine (duodenum), treat gastritis, treat heartburn (where the stomach acids flow back into the food pipe causing swelling and pain) and cure a particular type of bacterial infection in the stomach which leads to ulcers and sores.

Contraindications of Esole Granules

  • Allergic to the medicine
  • Allergic to any other proton-pump inhibitor medicines like lanzoprazole, rabeprazole, pantoprazole, omeprazole, etc.
  • Medicines used to treat HIV infection
  • Stomach cancer or symptoms of stomach cancer

Side effects of Esole Granules

  • The common side effects of consuming Esole Granules can include stomach aches, nausea, constipation, flatulence, diarrhoea and vomiting
  • More serious side effects can be rashes on the skin, blistering, erosion on different parts of the body, allergies, drop in sodium and magnesium levels in the blood, risk of infection resulting from long-term use, and becoming more sensitive to light

Pregnancy

Can I take this medicine during pregnancy?
A:
If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy this medicine should be taken only if prescribed by your doctor. Do not consume without consultation.

Breast Feeding

Can I take this medicine while breastfeeding?
A:
Check with your doctor before taking this medicine while breast-feeding as there is not enough data on whether traces of the medicine can be passed on to breast milk.

Driving

Q:
Can I drive if I have consumed the medicine?
A:
If you observe any of the side-effects of this tablet like blurred vision or giddiness, do not drive. Otherwise it will not have any effect on your ability to drive.

Alcohol

Q:
Can I consume alcohol while on this medicine?
A:
Excessive consumption of alcohol can cause acidity and heart burns so avoid consumption of alcohol while on this medicine. However, alcohol does not interact with the medicine.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You have had any history of stomach surgery
  • You are planning a stomach-related surgery
  • You have any problems related to the kidney
  • You are suffering from severe diarrhoea
  • You develop rashes due to exposure to the sun
  • You are 55 years of age or above and need to be on this medication for a long term

How Does It Work?

This medicine reacts with proton pumps found in stomach cells and blocks the enzymes that secrete acid. Proton pumps are responsible for producing acid.

Directions for Use of Esole Granules

Esole Granules is available in the form of granules and should be mixed with water before consumption. Empty the contents of the sachet into a glass of water, stir well and wait till the mixture thickens. The entire mixture should be consumed. Consult your doctor for the appropriate dosage and read the instructions on the packaging for the right amount of water to be used.

Interactions with other medicines

  • The effects of this medicine may be restricted by certain medicines used for the treatment of fungal infections such as: itraconazole, ketoconazole etc.
  • Medicines used to treat certain types of cancer like: erlotinib, methotrexate etc.
  • Blood thinning or thickening medicines

Interactions with food items

Interactions of this medicine with food are unknown; however it is best to be consumed on an empty stomach. Avoid food substances which can cause acidity such as caffeine, alcohol and nicotine which may delay the healing of ulcers.

Dosage of Esole Granules

Overdose

An overdose of Esole Granules can be recognized by symptoms like nausea, headaches, seizures, blurred vison, dry mouth, lack of coordination, breathlessness or a faster heartbeat. Immediate medical attention is required in case of an overdose.

Missed a Dose

Do not double dose if you have missed out on a scheduled dose. You can take the missed dose as and when you remember if it foes not interfere with your next scheduled dose.
