Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Tell your doctor immediately if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or become pregnant. Your doctor will decide whether efavirenz is suitable and discuss safer options.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

If you have human immunodeficiency virus infection, do not breastfeed unless your specialist and local guidance specifically advise it, because infection can pass to the baby.

Driving

Driving

Efavirenz may cause dizziness, sleepiness or difficulty concentrating. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Avoid alcohol because it can worsen dizziness, sleepiness, abnormal dreams and other nervous-system effects.

Directions for Use

Take this tablet as a whole with sufficient water on an empty stomach, unless your doctor gives different instructions. Do not crush or chew it. Continue treatment exactly as prescribed and do not stop without medical advice.

Storage and disposal

Store in the original tightly closed container at room temperature, away from light, heat and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Dispose of unused medicine as advised by your pharmacist.

Quick Tips

  • Take EFCURE with the other human immunodeficiency virus medicines prescribed for you.
  • Do not stop treatment without speaking to your doctor because the infection can become harder to control.
  • Use reliable contraception and discuss pregnancy planning with your doctor.

Dosage

Overdose

An overdose may cause dizziness, confusion, abnormal dreams, agitation, loss of coordination or seizures. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

Continue treatment regularly and do not stop without medical advice. If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Efavirenz blocks an enzyme that the human immunodeficiency virus needs to make more copies of itself. It lowers the amount of virus in the blood when used with other prescribed medicines.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way EFCURE works or increase side effects. Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements and herbal products you use. In particular, mention other human immunodeficiency virus medicines, medicines for seizures, tuberculosis medicines, medicines for fungal infections, medicines for malaria, hormonal contraceptives and products containing St John's wort.

Interactions with food items

Take it on an empty stomach unless your doctor advises otherwise. Avoid alcohol because it can worsen nervous-system side effects.
