Diamox 250 MG Description

Diamox 250 tablet contains Acetazolamide, which is classified under Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitors. It is prescribed for treating glaucoma, fluid retention in the body, and epilepsy (seizures). Glaucoma is an eye condition that can lead to vision loss and blindness by causing damage to the optic nerve at the back of the eye.

Before commencing the treatment, your doctor may recommend undergoing certain blood tests to determine if Diamox 250 tablet is suitable for you. If you are scheduled for any medical tests, inform your doctor as Diamox 250 tablet may interfere with them.

Prior to using Diamox 250 tablet, please disclose to your doctor if you have a history of severe kidney, liver, or lung problems, chronic non-congestive angle closure glaucoma, diminished adrenal gland function (Addison’s disease), low sodium/potassium levels, or high chlorine levels in the blood. If you are pregnant, it is not advisable to use Diamox 250 tablets. If you are breastfeeding, consult with a doctor before taking it.

For children and adolescents, the appropriate dosage of Diamox 250 tablet will be determined by the doctor based on the patient’s body weight. The most commonly reported side effects of Diamox 250 tablet include severe fatigue, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. If any of these symptoms worsen over time, consult your doctor.

  • Diamox tablet should be taken cautiously with methotrexate, anti-diabetics and blood thinners as it may increase or decrease the action of these medicines.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines like digoxin for the treatment of heart failure and blood pressure-lowering medicines.
  • Diamox tablet if taken along with medicines used for the treatment of seizures or fits may lead to bone softening, hence caution is advised.
  • Diamox tablet may increase the levels of amphetamine and quinidine and prolong their action.
  • If this medicine taken along with sodium bicarbonate (used to reduce stomach acid) can lead to kidney stones.
  • Lithium therapy used for brain-related disorders should be used cautiously with Diamox tablet as it can increase the levels of lithium in the body.
