How does this medicine work?

Deferasirox is an iron chelator. It binds excess iron so the body can remove it mainly in the stool. Treatment requires medical monitoring of iron levels and organ function because the amount needed varies with the person's condition.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can change deferasirox levels or increase kidney, liver or stomach risks. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines, supplements and herbal products you use. In particular, mention aluminium-containing antacids, other iron chelators, medicines that affect the kidneys or liver, and medicines processed by the liver.

Interactions with food items

Take the dispersed tablet as directed in relation to food. Ask your specialist before using iron or vitamin C supplements because they may affect iron management.
