Medical Description
Debistal Gm tablet is a combination medication containing glimepiride, metformin, and pioglitazone. It is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus when a combination of diet and exercise has not been sufficient to control blood sugar levels. Glimepiride stimulates the pancreas to produce and release more insulin, the hormone responsible for moving glucose from the bloodstream into the cells. Metformin works by reducing the amount of sugar absorbed from the intestines and produced by the liver. Pioglitazone enhances the body's sensitivity to insulin, making the liver and muscle cells more effective at utilising blood glucose. Together, these actions help significantly lower and maintain healthy blood sugar levels.
This medication is prescribed to be taken with a healthy diet and regular exercise. It is crucial to follow the dosage and duration as advised by a doctor. Abruptly stopping the medication can lead to a worsening of the diabetic condition. Before starting this treatment, you must inform your doctor about any pre-existing health conditions, especially heart failure, kidney or liver failure, or a history of bladder cancer. It is also contraindicated for pregnant and breastfeeding women due to potential harm to the baby. You should be aware of the potential for side effects, including hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), gastrointestinal issues like nausea and stomach upset, and, in rare cases, more serious conditions.
Debistal Gm tablet is an antidiabetic medicine, and its use requires careful monitoring to avoid complications. You should be vigilant for signs of hypoglycemia, which can manifest as extreme hunger, headache, shakiness, or confusion. In such instances, consuming a source of sugar, such as juice or candy, is recommended. This medication may interact with other medications, so it is essential to inform the doctor about all current medications, including supplements and herbal products. You should be cautious about alcohol consumption, as it can interfere with the medicine's effectiveness and increase the risk of low blood sugar and other serious complications like ketoacidosis.
Debistal Gm tablets should be stored at room temperature, away from light and moisture, and kept out of reach of children. If you have a missed dose, it is essential to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is close to the time for the next dose, the missed one should be skipped to avoid a double dose.
