Coldact New is a prescription medication. It is a syrup that is used to treat symptoms of a common cold like running nose, nasal congestion, and sneezing. It is a combination of two active components
, Chlorpheniramine Maleate (2mg/ml) and Phenylephrine (5mg/ml). Upper respiratory tract infections and allergies present with rhinitis (running nose), nasal congestion, headache, watering of eyes, heaviness of head, etc. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine, and Phenylephrine is an alpha-receptor agonist. Take this medication as recommended by your doctor. It is recommended to take this syrup on a regular schedule. Do not abruptly start or stop this medication as it may cause a recurrence of symptoms.

Contraindications of Coldact New 2/5 Mg Syrup 5 Ml
- It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Chlorpheniramine, phenylephrine, or any other components in this syrup.
- It is contraindicated in patients with asthma and sleep apnea.
- This medication is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.
- Relative contraindications include:
- Cardiac arrhythmias
- Heart diseases
- Hypertension (elevated BP)
- Glaucoma
- Urinary retention
- Impaired liver and kidney functions

How Does It Work?
Chlorpheniramine is a first-generation antihistamine. Histamines are chemical messengers present in blood that are indicated in allergic responses. Chlorpheniramine blocks Histamine receptors.
Phenylephrine is an alpha-receptor agonist. It produces effects like constriction of blood vessels, which produces decongestant effects. It helps relieve stuffiness and nasal blockage....
Directions for Use of Coldact New 2/5 Mg Syrup 5 Ml
- This medication should be taken as prescribed by your doctor.
- Shake the bottle well prior to use.
- Use a measuring cup and accurately measure the quantity of syrup as prescribed by your treating physician.
- Take this medication on a regular schedule, i.e., take it at the same time every day.
- Take this syrup for the entire duration recommended by your doctor. Abrupt stoppage can result in the recurrence of symptoms.
Interactions of Coldact New 2/5 Mg Syrup 5 Ml
Interactions with other medicines
- Concomitant use with hypnotics and anti-anxiety medicines can cause an increase in sedation.
- Concomitant use with alcohol and other CNS depressants can worsen neurological side effects.
- Chlorpheniramine decreases the metabolism of phenytoin and can result in phenytoin toxicity.
- Side effects of Chlorpheniramine like dry mouth, constipation and other effects like urinary retention and increased intraocular pressure can occur when used concomitantly with MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) like Selegiline and Rasagiline....

Dosage of Coldact New 2/5 Mg Syrup 5 Ml
Overdose
Overdose can present with symptoms like euphoria, dizziness, increased sedation, delirium, decreased coordination, heart rhythm abnormalities, increase in BP, and decreased heart rate.
In case of a suspected overdose, rush the patient to a tertiary care hospital with ICU facilities for further evaluation and management....
Missed a Dose
If you miss a dose of this medicine, it is advised to take it as soon as possible. If the duration lapsed is too long, and it is almost time for the next dose, it is recommended to skip the missed dose and go back to the regular schedule. Do not double the dose....
