Medical Description

Ajaduo Tablet is an anti-diabetic medicine prescribed for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This condition occurs when your body either does not produce enough insulin or cannot use it properly, leading to high blood sugar levels. Uncontrolled diabetes can cause serious health problems such as heart disease, kidney damage, vision loss, and poor circulation in the hands and legs. Managing blood sugar levels effectively is essential to prevent these complications and maintain overall well-being.

Ajaduo Tablet contains two active ingredients, empagliflozin and linagliptin. These medicines work together to help lower blood sugar levels. Empagliflozin helps your body get rid of extra sugar through urine, while linagliptin increases the natural release of insulin from the pancreas. This dual action helps your body better control blood sugar throughout the day.

You should take Ajaduo Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor, in the recommended dose and at the same time each day. It can be taken with or without food, but consistency is key to keeping your blood sugar levels stable. Do not skip doses or stop the medicine on your own, even if you feel better, as this could cause your blood sugar to rise again.

While taking Ajaduo Tablet, it is important to follow a healthy lifestyle. Regular exercise, a balanced diet low in sugar and refined carbohydrates, and adequate hydration can greatly improve the effect of this medicine. You should also check your blood sugar levels regularly and keep track of them to share with your doctor during follow-up visits.

Some people may experience mild side effects such as increased urination, thirst, or urinary tract infections. If you notice unusual symptoms like severe dehydration, dizziness, or pain while urinating, contact your doctor right away. Inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking and any history of kidney problems before starting Ajaduo Tablet to ensure safe and effective treatment.

If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

You should never miss your blood sugar medicines as it may lead to high blood sugar and symptoms associated with it. However, if you missed any dose of the medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

  • Empagliflozin blocks a certain protein in the kidneys called sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT-2) and prevents the reabsorption of glucose (sugar) by the kidneys. This causes the removal of blood sugar through the urine.
  • Linagliptin acts by blocking another protein called dipeptidyl-peptidase 4 (DPP-4). This causes the pancreas to produce more insulin when blood sugar levels are high, like after a meal. As a result, Ajaduo lowers your blood sugar levels and keeps it adequately controlled.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Some medicines can affect the way Ajaduo tablet works or Ajaduo tablet itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
  • Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
  • Ajaduo when coadministered with insulin or sulphonylureas (glyburide, glimepiride, glipizide, tolazamide, chlorpropamide) may increase the risk of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar levels).
  • Ajaduo may cause dehydration and low blood pressure when taken along with diuretics like thiazides (hydrochlorothiazide, chlorthalidone, metolazone, indapamide) and loop diuretics (furosemide, bumetanide, torasemide, ethacrynic acid).
