- Short term management of anxiety
Contraindications
- It is contraindicated in patients with known propranolol, diazepam or benzodiazepine hypersensitivity or known allergies to any components in this medication.
- Patients with decreased heart rate.
- Patients with lung disorders that cause difficulty in breathing such as bronchial asthma, Chronic obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or emphysema.
- Patients with significant liver dysfunction.
- Patients having acute narrow-angle glaucoma (elevated pressure inside the eye).
- This medication should not be used in patients with respiratory insufficiency.
- Patients with congenital blood disorders related to the metabolism of haem (an iron compound) known as porphyrias.
- Patients with pheochromocytoma (tumour affecting the adrenal gland).
- Patients with any problem of the smaller blood vessels supplying blood to the limbs.
- This medication should not be given to patients prone to low blood sugar values, like patients who fast or those who have just started on insulin treatment for diabetes.
- Patients with myasthenia gravis, a neurological condition that affects muscle strength and breathing.
- It is contraindicated in pregnancy.
- It should not be used in patients with a history of psychiatric illnesses such as psychosis.
- Patients with concomitant depression and anxiety as it can induce suicidal ideation.
- It should be used with caution in patients with a history of substance use and dependence.

- You should inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking. This tablet interacts with many other medications that use the same metabolic enzymes.
- You should report to your doctor immediately in case of any mood changes, or suicidal ideation.
Directions for Use

- This medication should be taken as prescribed by the treating physician.
- It is recommended to take this medication on a regular schedule, i.e., at the same time every day for optimal pharmacological effects of this medication.
- Swallow this medication as a whole. Do not crush, chew or break this tablet.
- Abrupt stoppage of Tensyn Plus can cause withdrawal side effects. Consult your doctor before stopping this medication.
- Driving/ use of heavy machinery is not advised while using this medication.
- This medication has habit-forming tendencies; hence it is recommended to follow the directions of your treating physician precisely and have a regular follow-up.

How Does It Work?
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- The concomitant use of this medication with opioids (like morphine, tramadol etc.) is contraindicated, as it may cause respiratory depression, coma and death.
- It should also not be used with other CNS depressants like alcohol can also cause similar effects and present life-threatening adverse effects.
- This medication should not be used with antiarrhythmic agents (like Amiadarone) and calcium channel blockers (like Nifedipine, Diltiazem, Verapamil) as they can cause severe cardiac side effects to fall in heart rate, heart failure and cardiovascular collapse.
- It should not be used with BP medications like ACE inhibitors (Enalapril) and alpha-blockers (Prazosin) as it can cause severe falls in BP, which can be life-threatening.
- Concomitant use with antidepressants and MAO inhibitors can cause a fall in BP.
- It should not be used with NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen, indomethacin, diclofenac) as it can decrease the efficacy of propranolol.
- Concomitant use with Warfarin may increase its concentration in the blood, resulting in bleeding manifestations.
- It can decrease the effects of Thyroxine in patients with hypothyroidism.
