Medical Description

Telmikind AM 80 Tablet is used to treat high blood pressure in adults whose blood pressure readings are not adequately controlled with telmisartan or amlodipine alone. It contains both medicines in a single daily tablet.

Amlodipine blocks calcium entry into the muscle of artery walls, so the muscle relaxes and the arteries widen, reducing the resistance the heart pumps against. Telmisartan blocks the angiotensin II receptor, a hormone that constricts blood vessels and causes the body to retain salt and water.

The pairing also solves a practical problem. Ankle swelling from amlodipine occurs because it dilates small arteries far more than small veins; telmisartan dilates the veins as well, so swelling is noticeably less common on the combination.

Take it once daily at the same time, with or without food, and avoid grapefruit, which raises amlodipine levels. Do not stop when readings improve, as blood pressure returns within days or weeks.

This medicine must not be used in pregnancy, as it can seriously harm the unborn baby. Avoid potassium-based salt substitutes and report muscle weakness or an irregular heartbeat, which may signal elevated potassium levels.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Telmikind AM 80 Tablet is used to treat high blood pressure in adults whose readings are not adequately controlled by telmisartan or amlodipine alone. It combines the two in one daily tablet, giving a larger reduction than either can achieve by itself.
They lower blood pressure by different routes. Amlodipine relaxes the muscle in artery walls so the vessels widen. Telmisartan blocks a hormone that would otherwise tighten those vessels and make the body retain salt and water. Blocking the problem from two directions is more effective than doubling either dose.
Yes, noticeably. Amlodipine causes swelling because it dilates the small arteries far more than the small veins, so fluid is pushed into the tissues. Telmisartan dilates the veins too, restoring the balance, which is why swelling is less common on this combination than on amlodipine alone.
No. The telmisartan component must be stopped as soon as pregnancy is confirmed or planned. Medicines of this class act on the system that develops the baby's kidneys and can cause serious harm or death, particularly after the first trimester. Tell your doctor immediately if you become pregnant.
Telmisartan reduces the hormone that helps the body excrete potassium, so levels can rise. High potassium causes muscle weakness, numbness and dangerous heart rhythms. Avoid potassium-based salt substitutes and do not take potassium supplements without medical advice.
Grapefruit blocks the enzyme that clears amlodipine, so its level rises and dizziness and low blood pressure become more likely. Occasional small amounts are unlikely to matter, but regular or large quantities should be avoided. Other citrus fruits are fine.
Some effect appears within the first week, but the full benefit usually takes four to eight weeks. High blood pressure causes no symptoms, so progress is judged by your readings rather than by how you feel.
No. Normal readings mean the medicine is working. Blood pressure climbs back within days or weeks of stopping, and the silent damage to your heart, brain, kidneys and eyes resumes. Any change must be your doctor's decision.
Either morning or evening, with or without food. What matters far more is taking it at the same time every day so the level in your body stays steady. Choose whichever time you are least likely to forget.
Your doctor will check your blood pressure regularly and will test kidney function and blood potassium before starting and periodically afterwards, particularly if you also take a diuretic or anti-inflammatory painkillers.
Mention kidney disease or narrowing of the kidney arteries, liver or gallbladder disease, heart failure, high potassium, severe aortic valve narrowing, and any recent vomiting, diarrhoea or dehydration. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Take it as soon as you remember, unless your next dose is nearly due, in which case skip the missed one. Do not take a double dose. Missing doses repeatedly allows blood pressure to rise again.
