Medical Description
Telmikind AM 80 Tablet is used to treat high blood pressure in adults whose blood pressure readings are not adequately controlled with telmisartan or amlodipine alone. It contains both medicines in a single daily tablet.
Amlodipine blocks calcium entry into the muscle of artery walls, so the muscle relaxes and the arteries widen, reducing the resistance the heart pumps against. Telmisartan blocks the angiotensin II receptor, a hormone that constricts blood vessels and causes the body to retain salt and water.
The pairing also solves a practical problem. Ankle swelling from amlodipine occurs because it dilates small arteries far more than small veins; telmisartan dilates the veins as well, so swelling is noticeably less common on the combination.
Take it once daily at the same time, with or without food, and avoid grapefruit, which raises amlodipine levels. Do not stop when readings improve, as blood pressure returns within days or weeks.
This medicine must not be used in pregnancy, as it can seriously harm the unborn baby. Avoid potassium-based salt substitutes and report muscle weakness or an irregular heartbeat, which may signal elevated potassium levels.
