Medical Description

Sorb tablet is used regularly to help prevent angina, the chest pain that occurs when the heart muscle does not receive enough blood and oxygen. It contains isosorbide mononitrate, a nitrate that relaxes and widens blood vessels. This lets more blood remain in the veins, reducing the amount returning to the heart and lowering its workload. Sorb tablet is swallowed whole by mouth and is not a substitute for emergency treatment of sudden severe chest pain.

Uses

  • Angina prevention: Reduced blood flow to the heart can cause pressure or pain during activity; this medicine helps lower the chance of these episodes during regular treatment.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Do not use Sorb tablet with sildenafil, tadalafil or similar medicines for erection problems or high blood pressure in the lungs, because blood pressure can fall dangerously. Tell your doctor if you have low blood pressure, anaemia, glaucoma, recent head injury or heart failure.

Storage and disposal

Store Sorb tablet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep it in its original container and out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date. Dispose of unused tablets through a pharmacist.

Dosage

Overdose

Too much may cause severe headache, flushing, dizziness, fainting, fast heartbeat or dangerously low blood pressure. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Isosorbide mononitrate relaxes the walls of veins and arteries. More blood remains in the veins, so less returns to the heart. This reduces the heart's workload and oxygen requirement, which helps prevent angina episodes.

Interactions with other medicines

In particular, never combine it with sildenafil, tadalafil or similar medicines for erection problems or high blood pressure in the lungs.
