Medical Description

Sizodon LS is a combination drug used to treat certain psychotic and mood disorders caused by an imbalance of certain chemicals in the brain, also known as neurotransmitters. It consists of two drugs, risperidone, and trihexyphenidyl. Risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic mainly used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. Trihexyphenidyl acts as an anticholinergic with a smooth muscle-relaxing property. It is used for controlling extrapyramidal symptoms.

Storage and disposal

The pills that are not needed anymore should be safely disposed of to avoid accidental usage. The pill should not be flushed in the toilet. Do not freeze or refrigerate the medicine. Do not store it in the bathroom.

  • Overdose symptoms include drowsiness, dizziness, abnormal heartbeats, seizures, hypotension, high pulse rate, gastrointestinal pain, difficulty passing or painful urine, and blurred vision.
  • In case of an overdose, call for emergency services immediately.

Missed a Dose

Take Tablet Sizodon LS as prescribed by your doctor. If you miss your regular dose, take it the moment you remember it. However, if it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose. Never take a double dose unless prescribed by your doctor.

How Does It Work?

Risperidone acts by blocking specific receptors for serotonin and dopamine pathways in your brain. This helps in controlling your symptoms of schizophrenia and bipolar mania. Trihexyphenidyl is an anticholinergic that works by blocking acetylcholine, helping to control symptoms of drugs causing extrapyramidal side effects.

Sizodon LS can be taken if you have mild to moderate kidney disease. However, dose adjustment may be required in case of severe renal insufficiency. Always consult a doctor and keep them well informed if you have kidney disease.

It takes about four to six weeks for Sizodon LS to show its effect clinically. However, the results are seen within one to two weeks in some. Stay in touch with your doctor during the first few weeks of starting this treatment.
