Medical Description

Ritrod injection is used in hospital care to temporarily delay premature labour when contractions begin too early in pregnancy. It contains ritodrine, a uterine-relaxing medicine that reduces tightening of the muscles of the womb. By easing these contractions, it may give the obstetric team time to assess the pregnancy and prepare care for the mother and baby. Ritrod injection is given by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic, with monitoring of the mother and baby; it must not be self-injected.

Uses

  • Premature labour: Contractions that begin too early can lead to early birth; Ritrod injection temporarily relaxes the womb so the obstetric team can manage the situation.
