Medical Description

Rayclox tablet is a prescription antibiotic combination used for susceptible bacterial infections. It contains amoxycillin and cloxacillin, which stop susceptible bacteria from building the protective covering they need to survive, plus lactobacillus, a live microorganism that helps restore useful intestinal bacteria. The antibiotics treat the infection, while lactobacillus supports the gut balance that may be disturbed during treatment. Rayclox tablet is taken by mouth as a whole tablet, on an empty stomach when directed, and only under medical supervision for the diagnosed infection.

Uses

  • Bacterial infections: Susceptible bacteria can cause infection in the lungs, skin, soft tissues, or urinary tract; this antibiotic combination helps clear those bacteria when prescribed.
  • Support during antibiotic treatment: Antibiotic treatment can disturb helpful intestinal bacteria; lactobacillus helps maintain a healthier gut balance while the infection is being treated.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, penicillin antibiotics, or cephalosporin antibiotics, do not use it. Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease or previous antibiotic-related bowel inflammation. Do not use leftover Rayclox tablet for a new illness or for a viral infection.

Side effects

  • Nausea or vomiting: Amoxycillin and cloxacillin can irritate the stomach during treatment. Seek medical advice if vomiting prevents you from keeping fluids or the medicine down.
  • Diarrhoea: Antibiotics can disturb intestinal bacteria and loosen stools. Contact your doctor promptly if it is severe, persistent, or contains blood.
  • Stomach pain: Digestive irritation or changes in gut bacteria can cause abdominal discomfort. Seek medical help for intense pain, fever, or repeated vomiting.
  • Flatulence: Changes in intestinal bacteria may increase gas and bloating. Mention troublesome or persistent symptoms to your doctor, especially if the abdomen becomes very painful.
  • Rash or allergic reaction: An itchy rash can signal sensitivity to a penicillin antibiotic. Get emergency medical help for breathing difficulty or swelling of the face, lips, or throat.

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Available information suggests amoxycillin can be used in pregnancy when needed, but tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. Use Rayclox tablet only when prescribed.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Amoxycillin and cloxacillin may pass into breast milk. Tell your doctor that you are breastfeeding, as they may advise pausing breastfeeding during treatment and until the medicine leaves your body.

Driving

Driving

Rayclox tablet is not expected to affect everyone in the same way, but dizziness or an allergic reaction can make driving unsafe. Do not drive if you feel affected.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Alcohol may worsen stomach discomfort or dizziness. Ask your doctor whether you should avoid alcohol during treatment.

Directions for Use

Take this medicine as a whole with sufficient water. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet. Take Rayclox tablet on an empty stomach unless your doctor gives different instructions. Use it only for the diagnosed bacterial infection and follow the treatment plan provided by your doctor.

Storage and disposal

Store Rayclox tablets in the original pack, protected from moisture and excessive heat, and keep them out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use tablets that are damaged or past their expiry date. Ask a pharmacist how to discard unused medicine; do not throw it into wastewater or share it with others.

Quick Tips

  • Use Rayclox tablet only for the bacterial infection prescribed by your doctor.
  • Drink enough fluids if loose stools occur, unless your doctor has restricted fluids.
  • Do not save leftover antibiotics for a later illness or give them to another person.
  • Tell your doctor about any previous allergy to penicillin or related antibiotics.
  • Get emergency medical help for breathing difficulty or swelling of the face, lips, or throat.

Dosage

Overdose

Taking more than prescribed may increase nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, or allergic symptoms. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Amoxycillin and cloxacillin are antibiotics that interfere with bacterial protective covering formation, so susceptible bacteria cannot grow and survive. Lactobacillus is a helpful microorganism that supports the normal balance of bacteria in the intestine, which may be disturbed during antibiotic treatment.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Rayclox tablet works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you use. In particular, mention blood thinners because they may require closer bleeding monitoring; medicines for gout such as probenecid because they can change amoxycillin levels; other antibiotics because combined treatment should be supervised; medicines that affect kidney function; and live bacterial vaccines because antibiotics may reduce their effect.

Interactions with food items

Food may reduce the absorption of some penicillin antibiotics. Use Rayclox tablet on an empty stomach if directed, and ask your doctor whether any food or supplement should be separated.
