Medical Description

Quik Kool Mouth Ulcer Gel is used for temporary relief of pain and discomfort from mouth ulcers, irritation from dentures or dental attachments, and minor injury inside the mouth. It contains a combination of choline salicylate and lidocaine, also called lignocaine. The choline salicylate component helps reduce local inflammation, while the lidocaine component is a local anaesthetic that temporarily numbs the treated area and limits pain signals. Quik Kool gel is applied inside the mouth for local action, is for external use only, and is not intended for ingestion.

Uses

  • Mouth ulcer pain: The gel temporarily eases soreness and local inflammation, making eating and speaking more comfortable while the affected mouth lining settles.
  • Denture or dental attachment irritation: Local application can soothe painful rubbing from dentures, braces or other dental attachments.
  • Minor oral injury: Applied to a small painful area inside the mouth, the gel provides temporary local relief while the tissue heals.

Do not use Quik Kool gel during pregnancy or if you may be pregnant. Ask your doctor about safer options if you are planning pregnancy.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

The ingredients may pass into breast milk. Ask your doctor before using Quik Kool gel while breastfeeding, and do not apply it where the baby could contact it.

Driving

Alcohol

Alcohol

Alcohol can worsen mouth irritation and ulcer pain. Avoid it while the mouth is inflamed.

Directions for Use

For external use only. Wash your hands before and after application. Put a small amount on a clean fingertip or cotton bud and gently spread it over the ulcer. Avoid eating or drinking for the period advised by your doctor after application.

Storage and disposal

Store Quik Kool gel below 30 degrees Celsius in a clean, dry place away from heat and direct sunlight. Keep the container closed and out of reach of children. Do not use expired gel or share it with anyone.

Quick Tips

  • Apply a small amount with clean hands or a cotton bud.
  • Use Quik Kool gel only on the affected mouth area.
  • Avoid eating while the treated area feels numb.
  • Do not apply another product inside the mouth at the same time unless advised.
  • Seek medical review if an ulcer lasts, returns often, becomes very painful or is associated with swelling or fever.

Dosage

Overdose

Excess application may cause salicylate toxicity, including dizziness, ringing in the ears or hearing loss. If you think you have used too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you miss an application, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed one. Do not apply extra product to make up for it.

How does this medicine work?

The choline salicylate component helps reduce local chemical signals that contribute to pain and inflammation. The lidocaine component temporarily numbs nearby nerves and limits the pain signals they send to the brain. Together, these actions provide short-term local relief in the treated mouth area.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Quik Kool gel works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, tell your doctor if you use blood-thinning medicines such as warfarin or heparin, or medicines for gout or uric-acid arthritis such as colchicine. Avoid applying other products inside the mouth at the same time unless advised.

Interactions with food items

Hot, spicy or acidic foods can make a mouth ulcer hurt more. Avoid eating while the treated area is numb because you may burn or bite yourself.
