Medical Description

Phensedyl CR syrup contains a combination of Ambroxol, Levocetirizine, Guaiphenesin (also called Guaifenesin) and Menthol. It is used to treat cough with phlegm or mucus. It also helps in providing relief from symptoms of allergy like sneezing, teary eyes, runny nose, stuffy nose etc. Phensedyl CR syrup should be taken as directed by the doctor and in doses and duration as prescribed. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding and about all the medicines and supplements you take and all the conditions or diseases you suffer from, before starting this medicine.

According to the advisory issued by the Union Health Ministry, cough and cold medications should not be prescribed or dispensed to children under two years of age. These medications are generally not recommended for children under five years old. For children above that age, any use should be based on careful clinical evaluation and close supervision.

  • Phensedyl CR syrup works by the combined action of all its active components.
  • Ambroxol acts on the inner lining of the respiratory tract and causes an increase in secretions of the respiratory tract. It also stimulates certain cells in the respiratory tract which help in expectoration (coughing out the respiratory secretions).
  • Guaiphenesin (also called Guaifenesin) is an expectorant, it helps in thinning the mucus in the airways and makes it easier to cough out and clear the airways.
  • Levocetirizine works by blocking histamine, a natural substance, which is produced by the body during allergic reactions.
  • Menthol provides a cooling effect on throat and sensory nerves.
