Uses of Pantoday 40mg Tab

Pantoday 40mg Tab uses are for treating stomach ulcers ulcer in the first part of intestines; a peculiar infection of the stomach called Helicobacter pylori infection (in this condition, this medicine is used along with antibiotics); treating symptoms like heartburn, acid regurgitation associated to gastro-oesophageal reflux disease; Zollinger–Ellison syndrome. Also, this medicine can be used alone or in combination with other medicines that decrease or neutralize acid secretion.

Contraindications of Pantoday 40mg Tab

If you have any allergic reaction to pantoprazole or other proton pump inhibitors. If you are on rilpivirine or atazanavir or other anti-HIV medications. If you are on methotrexate. If you have or are suspected to have stomach cancer. There are studies that link pantoprazole to stomach cancer. It is important to share if you have any personal or family history of stomach cancer.

Side effects of Pantoday 40mg Tab

Pantoday 40mg Tab side effects (common) are headache, constipation or diarrhoea along with flatulence and dry mouth; stomach-ache, fatigue, skin rash, sore throat; serious skin conditions: blistering of skin, erosion of nose, mouth, lips, genitals (Steven–Johnson syndrome) and sensitivity to light; increased risk of infections in the long-term use; fracture of the hip, wrist or spine; skin turning yellow (severe damage to liver cells, jaundice); altered sense of taste; disturbances in vision such as blurred vision; and decreased sodium and magnesium level in blood.

Driving

This medicine has negligible influence on the ability to drive. If you experience side effects like dizziness or disturbed vision after its administration, you should avoid driving.

Alcohol

No interaction between alcohol and Pantoday 40mg Tab has been reported. However, alcohol is known to increase acidity and can worsen your acidity .

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
If you have severe liver issues or increased levels of liver enzymes, the treatment should be stopped. If you have low levels of vitamin B12 (like cobalamin), the treatment should be stopped; because Pantoday 40mg Tab is known to cause a reduced absorption of vitamin B12 in the long term. If on exposure to sun, you get rash on your skin, stop your treatment with Pantoday 40mg Tab and inform your doctor as soon as you can. It may cause Clostridium difficle-associated diarrhoea and malabsorption if it is taken for a long term. Therefore, the treatment should be taken only on doctor’s advice.

How Does It Work?

A pump called the proton pump in the stomach is responsible for the secretion of stomach acids. Pantoprazole binds to this proton pump in stomach cells, thus blocking secretion of acids. Therefore, it is used in conditions where there is excessive acidity.

Directions for Use of Pantoday 40mg Tab

The tablet needs to be taken one hour before a meal without chewing or breaking it and should be wholly swallowed with some water. This tablet is not supposed to be taken with food rather it can be taken with empty stomach, preferably morning.

Interactions with other medicines

  • Medicines, such as itraconazole, ketoconazole, that are used to treat fungal infections
  • Medicines, such as erlotinib, methotrexate, that are used for certain types of cancer
  • Medicines prescribed to patients with AIDS such as nelfinavir/tenofovir/atazanavir, rilpivirine, etc.
  • Warfarin and phenprocoumon, which affect the thickening or thinning of the blood

Interactions with food items

This medication is advised to be taken on an empty stomach. There are not any known interactions with food or beverages. However, nicotine, caffeine (coffee, tea, chocolate and cola) and alcohol can stimulate stomach acid or delay ulcer healing and hinder the treatment process.
