Medical Description

Omee D Capsule is a combination medicine used to manage gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This condition arises when stomach acid frequently flows back into the tube connecting your mouth and stomach, known as the esophagus. This acidic backflow irritates the lining of the esophagus, causing uncomfortable symptoms like heartburn and chest pain. The medicine is prescribed when a single-ingredient medicine, such as omeprazole alone, is not effective in controlling the symptoms. Omee D contains two active ingredients: omeprazole and domperidone, which work together to provide relief.

Omeprazole belongs to a class of medicines called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). The stomach lining has tiny "pumps" that produce digestive acids. Omeprazole works by blocking these pumps, significantly reducing the amount of acid the stomach produces. This helps to heal the esophagus and alleviates the burning sensation. The other active ingredient, domperidone, is a prokinetic agent. It helps increase the movement of your stomach and intestines. This action prevents the acid from moving back up into your food pipe, which is the primary cause of reflux symptoms.

By combining these two medicines, Omee D addresses both the overproduction of stomach acid and the physical movement of stomach contents. This dual action makes it a suitable treatment for GERD, helping to relieve symptoms and promote healing of the esophagus lining. It is important to take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor, following the recommended dose and duration. You should not adjust your dose or stop the medicine without consulting your doctor.

For optimal results, this medicine should be taken at least 30 minutes before a meal, as directed by your healthcare provider. It is crucial to swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water and not to crush, break, or chew it. This ensures the medicine is released and absorbed correctly. As with any medication, it is essential to inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking, as well as any existing health conditions, to avoid potential interactions. Your doctor may also recommend lifestyle modifications, such as dietary adjustments and regular exercise, to support your recovery and help prevent future flare-ups of acid reflux and GERD.

Omez DSR capsuleOcid DSR capsule, Omido DSR capsule and Oskar DSR capsule are some other medicines containing omeprazole and domperidone as their active ingredients.

  • Omeprazole belongs to the class of medicines called proton pump inhibitors. The lining of the stomach secretes acid by certain processes that involve the intake of ions via a proton pump in the cells. Omeprazole reduces the intake of the ions in the stomach cells that are necessary for the production of digestive acids in the stomach and hence leads to reduced acid production.
  • Domperidone increases the motility of the stomach and intestines so that acid does not reflux back into the food pipe.

  • Certain medicine may affect the way the Omee-D capsule works or the Omee-D itself can alter the action of other medicines taken along.
  • Especially, if you are taking certain anti-infectives, medicines for heart-related conditions, medicine for brain disorders, certain immunomodulators and anti-HIV medicines.

Interactions with food items

Omee-D capsule should be taken on an empty stomach. There are no known interactions with food or beverages. However, nicotine, caffeine (coffee, tea, chocolate and cola) can stimulate stomach acid or delay ulcer healing and hinder the treatment process. Thus, it should be avoided.
