Medical Description

Neosporin Antibiotic ointment is used to treat & prevent superficial bacterial skin infections such as accidental cuts, scratches, minor burns, injuries, wounds. It is also used in treating & preventing bacterial eye infections such as conjunctivitis, corneal inflammation, other eye injuries. Neosporin Antibiotic ointment is a combination medicine containing polymyxin B, bacitracin and neomycin. It is meant only for external application and should be applied exactly as recommended by your doctor. Before using Neosporin Antibiotic ointment, please discuss with your doctor if you have any other eye conditions.

Uses

  • Neosporin Antibiotic ointment is used for the treatment & prevention of bacterial skin & eye infections.
  • It is used to treat & prevent superficial bacterial skin infections associated with open wounds, cuts, minor burns, scratches, surgical injuries.
  • This ointment is also used to treat bacterial eye infections such as conjunctivitis, corneal inflammation, other eye injuries. It can also be used both pre & post operation to prevent eye infection following eye surgery.

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to neomycin, polymixin B or bacitracin or any other ingredient of Neosporin Antibiotic ointment
  • If you have problems with your kidney
  • If you suffer from any ear problem or hearing loss
  • It should not be used to treat external ear infections if you have perforations in the eardrum
  • Neosporin Antibiotic ointment should not be used in children less than 2 years old

  • Discard after a month from first opening the tube.

Overdose

As Neosporin Antibiotic ointment is meant for external application cases of overdose are unlikely. However, upon accidental ingestion contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital. If you have applied extra quantities of it wipe out the excess of the medicine with tissue or cotton

Missed a Dose

If you have missed applying Neosporin Antibiotic ointment, apply it as soon as possible. Do not overapply this medicine just to compensate for the missed dose.
