Medical Description
Mitotax injection contains paclitaxel, a natural compound derived from plant sources used as a cytotoxic anticancer medicine. It works inside rapidly dividing cells to stop cell division and prevent cancer cells from growing and spreading.
In the body, it targets and stabilises the internal structural framework of cancer cells, stopping them from dividing and leading to their death. This helps reduce tumor size and manage cancer spread.
Common side effects of Mitotax injection include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, hair loss, tiredness, muscle or joint pain, rash, itching, and numbness or tingling in the hands and feet.
Contact your doctor immediately if you experience signs of an allergic reaction (such as a skin rash, itching, or swelling of the face, lips, or throat), severe chest pain, trouble breathing, severe fever or chills, persistent dizziness, or severe numbness and weakness.
Mitotax injection is administered by healthcare professionals via intravenous (IV) injection, as specifically prescribed by your doctor.
Uses
- Breast cancer – metastatic disease after certain previous treatments, or as adjuvant treatment for node-positive breast cancer after doxorubicin-containing chemotherapy.
- Ovarian cancer – advanced disease, either as initial treatment with cisplatin or after previous chemotherapy has failed.
- Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) – advanced disease in combination with cisplatin when surgery or radiotherapy with curative intent is not suitable.
- AIDS-related Kaposi’s sarcoma – when previous treatment has failed.
- Advanced gastric cancer.
- Advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck, including unresectable locally advanced, recurrent, or metastatic disease when appropriate local treatment is not feasible.
Contraindications
- If you have a known severe hypersensitivity or systemic allergic reaction to paclitaxel, polyoxyethylated castor oil, or any of its ingredients.
- If your white blood cell (neutrophil) count is severely low.
Side effects
- Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
- Headache and tiredness
- Dizziness and lightheadedness
- Temporary hair loss (alopecia)
- Stomach pain and loss of appetite
- Joint and muscle pain
- Numbness, tingling, or burning sensations in hands and feet
- Skin rash, itching, or flushing
- Severe Allergic Reaction (Anaphylaxis): Severe rash, skin blistering, swelling of the face, low blood pressure, chest tightness, or sudden trouble breathing.
- Severe Infection: High fever, chills, severe sore throat, or signs of low white blood cell counts.
- Heart Irregularities: Unusually slow heart rate, chest discomfort, or irregular heartbeats.
- Severe peripheral neuropathy: Severe or worsening numbness, tingling, weakness, or difficulty walking.

- Develop severe dizziness, fainting, difficulty breathing, or a widespread skin rash.
- Notice signs of infection such as fever, chills, or persistent sore throat.
- Have a history of heart problems or liver disease,
- Develop severe or persistent numbness, tingling, weakness, or difficulty walking.
- Are having routine blood tests, as Mitotax injection lowers blood cell counts and requires regular monitoring.
