Medical Description
Mep powder for injection is used to reduce stomach acid in acid reflux, peptic ulcer disease, excessive acid production and selected ulcer-related bleeding situations. It contains omeprazole sodium, a proton pump inhibitor that lowers the amount of acid released by the stomach. By switching off the stomach's acid-producing pumps, omeprazole can relieve acid irritation and support ulcer healing. Mep injection is prepared and given into a vein by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic when an injectable form is considered appropriate. It is used when a doctor considers an injection more suitable than an oral form.
Uses
- Acid reflux: Stomach acid flowing into the food pipe can cause heartburn and sour fluid; Mep injection reduces acid so irritation can settle.
- Peptic ulcers: These are sores in the stomach or upper intestine; reducing acid gives the damaged lining a better chance to heal.

- Ulcer-related bleeding: In selected hospital patients, omeprazole may be used with other care to help prevent or manage bleeding from an ulcer.
- Stress-ulcer prevention: Seriously ill hospital patients may receive acid suppression to reduce the risk of stress-related ulcers when their doctor considers it appropriate.
- Prevention of aspiration-related complications: Acid suppression before anaesthesia may reduce acidity if stomach contents enter the airways.
