Description
Lurata tablet is used to manage psychotic disorders like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Managing depressive episodes associated with bipolar disorder, alone or with other medications, is one of
the uses of Lurata tablets. Psychotic conditions affect a person's ability to think, feel, and behave normally. This medicine can be used in children over ten. The active ingredient in Lurata tablets is Lurasidone. It belongs to a type of atypical antipsychotic medication. The mode of action of the Lurata tablet is by stabilising the levels of specific chemical messengers that help manage mood and lower the overactivity in the brain. Direction for the use of Luraken tablets should be strictly followed. This medicine can cause death in older adults with memory loss associated with psychotic disorders. It can also induce suicidal thoughts in young adults. Sudden stoppage of Lurata tablets can lead to withdrawal symptoms such as irritation, vomiting, profuse sweating, etc. It is not a habit-forming medicine and does not induce dependency.

Uses
- As per CDSCO or USFDA, Lurata tablet is an atypical antipsychotic indicated for:
- Treatment of schizophrenia (treats both positive and negative symptoms)
- Treatment of depressive episodes along with Bipolar Disorder (bipolar depression) as monotherapy and as adjunctive therapy with lithium or valproate.
Contraindications
- Do not use Lurata tablets, or use caution:
- If you are allergic to lurasidone or any other component of the Lurata tablet.
- If you are an older adult diagnosed with dementia-related psychosis. There is a higher risk of stroke and even death.
- If you are under treatment with other antipsychotic medicines.
- If you are diagnosed with neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a neuromuscular disorder with various symptoms).
- If you are diagnosed with tardive dyskinesia (sudden jerky movements).
- If you have a history of diabetes with uncontrolled glucose levels and high cholesterol levels.
- If you have a history of stroke or other similar disorders.
- If you notice changes in blood pressure; this is relevant for children and adolescents.
- If you have a history of seizure disorder.
- If you have hyperprolactinemia (high prolactin levels).
- If you have a low white blood cell count (neutropenia or leukopenia); regularly monitor your blood count.
- If you are under treatment for Parkinson's disease or dementia with Lewy bodies.
- If you are diagnosed with an adrenal gland tumour; this medicine can cause life-threatening high blood pressure.
- If you have cataracts; they can worsen with long-term treatment with Lurata tablets.

- You have diabetes. You must monitor your blood glucose levels, as this medicine can cause fluctuations in blood glucose levels.
- You have low blood pressure. This medicine causes orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure with a change in position).

- Take Lurata tablets exactly as prescribed by the doctor.
- Do not change the dose of Lurata tablets, even if you do not notice the changes.
- Do not try to break or chew the tablet. Swallow the whole pill with a glass of water.
- It is better not to take Lurata tablets with other medications without informing your doctor.
- Do not use Lurata medicine if its packaging has already been opened.
- Do not suddenly stop taking the Lurata tablet, as it can cause adverse effects from withdrawal.
- You can take Lurata medicine with or without food.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Consult your doctor if you are taking the following medications at the time of treatment with Lurata tablets. These interactions can lead to severe side effects.
- Carbamazepine decreases the levels of Lurata tablets.
- Antivirals (ritonavir) and antibiotics (rifampin and clarithromycin) may slow down the breaking down of Lurata tablets by the liver.
- Antifungals (ketoconazole and voriconazole) increase the levels of Lurata tablets.
- Mibefradil increases the levels of Lurata tablets.
- Anti-seizure medication (phenytoin) lowers the effectiveness of Lurata tablets.
- Herbal medications (St John's Wort) may cause serotonin syndrome, which causes life-threatening side effects and even death due to high serotonin levels in the blood.
- A few other medicines can interact with Lurata tablets, like other antipsychotics, antidepressants, sedatives, antihistamines, etc. These medicines interact with Lurata tablets causing a change in the efficacy of both medications. Dosage should be carefully monitored....
