Medical Description

Lotel LS 0.3 eye gel is used to reduce redness, swelling, itching, pain and watering caused by inflammation in the eye, including inflammation after eye surgery. It contains loteprednol, a corticosteroid that reduces the release of chemical messengers involved in eye inflammation. This can ease inflammatory discomfort but does not treat every cause of eye redness or infection. The gel is placed inside the lower eyelid and is for external use only. Use it only for the period prescribed by an eye specialist, because prolonged use can cause eye problems.

Uses

  • Eye inflammation: The gel can ease discomfort from an overactive inflammatory response, including redness, swelling, itching and watering.
  • Inflammation after eye surgery: It may help settle post-operative irritation and swelling when an eye specialist recommends treatment.
  • Allergy-related eye irritation: By calming irritation, the gel may reduce itchy, watery eyes while the underlying allergy still needs attention.
  • Selected infection-related inflammation: An eye specialist may add this treatment when inflammation accompanies an assessed eye infection.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Do not use Lotel LS 0.3 for untreated viral eye infections, including herpes simplex or chickenpox-related infection, or for fungal or other untreated eye infections unless an eye specialist advises it. Tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, raised eye pressure or an eye injury before use.

Side effects

  • Foreign body sensation: You may feel as if something is stuck in the eye after applying the gel. Do not rub the eye, and seek advice if pain or redness worsens.
  • Dry eye: The eye may feel gritty or less comfortable during treatment. Contact your doctor if this becomes severe or affects vision.
  • Burning eyes: Brief burning or stinging can occur after application. Get emergency medical help for breathing difficulty or swelling of the face, lips or throat.
  • Blurred vision: Temporary blurring may occur after the gel is placed in the eye. Do not drive until your vision becomes clear.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy safety has not been established. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy so the possible benefits and risks can be considered.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Your doctor may advise pausing breastfeeding during treatment and until they confirm that resuming it is appropriate.

Driving

Lotel LS 0.3 eye gel may temporarily blur vision. Do not drive or use machinery until your sight is clear.

Directions for Use

For external use only. Wash your hands before use. Remove contact lenses before applying Lotel LS 0.3 and replace them only after the waiting period advised by your doctor or on the pack. Hold the tube close to the eye without touching the eye, eyelashes or skin. Gently place the prescribed amount inside the lower eyelid, close the eye gently and keep the tip clean. Use exactly as advised and do not use it longer than prescribed.

Storage and disposal

Keep Lotel LS 0.3 eye gel tightly closed and store it as directed on the pack, away from heat and moisture. Do not use it if the seal is broken or the tip is contaminated. Keep it out of children's reach, do not share the tube and dispose of unused gel according to local instructions.

Quick Tips

  • Wash your hands before and after applying Lotel LS 0.3 eye gel.
  • Remove contact lenses before use and replace them only after the advised waiting period.
  • Do not let the tube tip touch the eye, eyelids or eyelashes.
  • Do not drive while your vision is blurred.
  • Contact your doctor if symptoms worsen or do not improve within the period advised.
  • Use the gel only for the prescribed period because prolonged use may raise eye pressure.

Dosage

Overdose

If excess gel is used, gently wipe away the extra and do not rub the eye. If you think you have used too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you miss an application, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed one. Do not apply extra product to make up for it.

How does this medicine work?

Loteprednol is a corticosteroid that reduces the production of chemical messengers involved in eye inflammation. This lowers redness, swelling, itching and watering, but it does not directly clear an infection.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Lotel LS 0.3 eye gel works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, other eye products may need to be spaced to prevent dilution, while medicines for glaucoma or raised eye pressure require review because loteprednol may raise pressure. Tell your eye specialist about immune-suppressing medicines.
