Medical Description

Libitus LS 1/30/ syrup is a combination medicine used for cough with mucus and chest congestion in selected bronchial conditions. It contains ambroxol and guaifenesin, which thin and loosen phlegm, and salbutamol, which relaxes narrowed airway muscles. Ambroxol also helps mucus move more easily, while salbutamol can improve airflow when the airways are tight. Libitus LS syrup is taken by mouth after shaking well and measuring it with the supplied device, only as prescribed.

Uses

  • Cough with mucus: Thick phlegm can block the airways; ambroxol and guaifenesin loosen it so coughing can clear it.
  • Chest congestion: The syrup helps reduce mucus buildup in the breathing passages during selected respiratory illnesses.
  • Bronchial narrowing with mucus: Salbutamol relaxes airway muscles while the other ingredients help clear phlegm in bronchitis, asthma or emphysema.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not take it. Side effects

  • Stomach upset: Ambroxol, guaifenesin or salbutamol may cause nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, an upset stomach or diarrhoea; seek medical advice if severe or persistent.
  • Headache: A temporary headache may occur during treatment; contact your doctor if it is severe or does not settle.
  • Dizziness: This syrup can make you light-headed; avoid driving and sit down if you feel faint or unsteady.
  • Shaking: Salbutamol may cause tremor or muscle cramps; stop strenuous activity and tell your doctor if the shaking is troublesome.
  • Fast heartbeat: Salbutamol can cause palpitations or an increased heart rate, and a skin rash may also occur; get urgent help for chest pain or fainting.

  • Avoid alcohol and drive only if you feel fully alert.
  • Seek medical advice if cough persists, keeps returning or occurs with fever, rash, persistent headache or worsening breathing.

Dosage

Overdose

Too much syrup may cause shaking, fast or uneven heartbeat, dizziness, vomiting, weakness or breathing problems. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Ambroxol makes airway mucus thinner and helps it move. Guaifenesin increases mucus flow and loosens phlegm so it can be cleared by coughing. Salbutamol relaxes the muscles around narrowed airways, allowing air to move more freely.
