Genticyn 80 MG Description
Genticyn injection contains an antibiotic called Gentamicin. It belongs to a class of medicines called aminoglycosides. It is used to treat infections in the body caused by the bacteria: Pseudomonas
aeruginosa, Proteus species (indole-positive and indole-negative), Escherichia coli, Klebsiella-Enterobacter-Serratia species, Citrobacter species, and Staphylococcus species (coagulase-positive and coagulase-negative).

Gentamicin should not be used when pregnant unless there is a life-threatening indication and the benefit outweighs the risk due to the danger of inner ear and kidney damage to the growing baby.

A:
Gentamicin is excreted in breast milk and was found in low concentrations in breast-fed children. Diarrhoea and fungus infection can occur in those infants. Hence, caution must be exercised when giving to mothers that are nursing.

Mode of Action of Genticyn 80 MG
How Does It Work?
Bacteria need to produce certain proteins in order to function correctly and remain alive. The antibiotic gentamicin targets and kills the bacteria by interfering with the production of the essential proteins needed by the bacteria. Thus, the bacteria are unable to survive and die and the infection subsides....
Directions for Use of Genticyn 80 MG
- Do not administer it yourself
- The injection will be given by a trained doctor or nurse only
- Dosage should be adjusted in patients according to the diseases they have or their age
- Patients should be well hydrated when treating with this medicine
- Use the injection only if the solution is clear and the package is not damaged
- It should not be used in viral infections like the common cold
- The medication should be taken exactly as prescribed by a doctor
Interactions of Genticyn 80 MG
Interactions with other medicines
- Neuromuscular blocking activity of the medicine is increased of ether or muscle relaxants are taken with it
- The damaging effect of methoxyflurane may be increased if given with gentamicin
- Harm to the kidneys or hearing is more likely when gentamicin is coadministered with other antibiotics, amphotericin B, diuretics (furosemide, ethacrynic acid), cisplatin, ciclosporin
- Concomitant administration with carbenicillin can reduce serum levels of gentamicin
- In new-borns, indomethacin may increase gentamicin plasma concentrations
- If used in combination with oral anticoagulants, deficiency of prothrombin may be amplified
- Bisphosphonate use in combination with this medication can raise the risk of calcium deficiency in blood
- Action of Gentamicin can be antagonized by neostigmine or pyridostigmine
- Due to increased neuromuscular inhibition, using botulinum toxin and gentamicin together may raise the risk of toxicity
Storage and disposal of Genticyn 80 MG
Do not store the injection at temperatures above 25°C. Do not freeze or refrigerate. To keep the product safe from light, keep it in its original packaging. The product should be utilised right after opening. The product is for single use only. Unused product or waste should be disposed of according to local regulations....
Dosage of Genticyn 80 MG
Overdose
In case of overdose, report to a doctor immediately. Haemodialysis may aid in the elimination of gentamicin from the blood in the event of overdosage or toxic responses and is especially significant if renal function is, or becomes, compromised....
