Medical Description
Fosabond tablet contains a combination of Alendronic Acid (Alendronate) and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) as its active ingredients. It is used in the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, a condition in which bones become weak and fragile, especially in post-menopausal women, elderly individuals, and people receiving long-term steroid therapy. This medicine helps strengthen bones and reduces the risk of fractures.
Alendronate works by slowing down bone breakdown and increasing bone density, while Vitamin D3 enhances the absorption of calcium from the intestine and supports proper bone mineralization. Together, these ingredients help maintain bone strength, improve bone density, and prevent further bone loss.
Fosabond tablet should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It must be taken on an empty stomach with a full glass of water, preferably in the morning. After taking the medicine, you should remain upright (sitting or standing) for at least 30 minutes and avoid eating, drinking, or taking other medicines during this period to reduce stomach irritation and ensure proper absorption.
Before starting Fosabond tablet, inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, and about any existing medical conditions such as low calcium levels, kidney problems, or oesophageal disorders. Also, inform your doctor about all medicines and supplements you are taking. This medicine should be used only under medical supervision and is not recommended for children unless advised by a doctor.
