Medical Description

Foracort g metered-dose inhaler is a maintenance treatment used to control long-term airway disease and reduce swelling, mucus and tightening in the airways. It contains a combination of budesonide, formoterol and glycopyrronium. Budesonide is an inhaled steroid medicine that calms airway inflammation, formoterol relaxes airway muscles, and glycopyrronium helps prevent those muscles from tightening. Foracort g inhaler is breathed into the lungs using the prescribed technique and is not usually a rescue treatment for sudden severe breathlessness.

Uses

  • Long-term airway disease: This combination reduces swelling, mucus and muscle tightening in the airways, helping maintain airflow between flare-ups.
  • Breathing symptom control: Regular use may help reduce wheezing, cough and breathlessness caused by narrowed airways, but it is not a rescue treatment.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. This inhaler is not intended to relieve a sudden breathing attack, so follow your rescue plan instead.

Side effects

  • Hoarseness: Budesonide may irritate the throat and change the voice. Rinse your mouth after each use and report persistent hoarseness.
  • Oral fungal infection: The steroid can allow white patches or soreness in the mouth. Rinse and spit after inhalation and contact your doctor if these appear.
  • Tremor or palpitations: Formoterol may cause shaking or a fast heartbeat. Seek urgent care for chest pain, fainting or severe palpitations.
  • Dry mouth: Glycopyrronium may reduce saliva and cause mouth dryness. Sip water and report difficulty swallowing or severe discomfort.
  • Headache: The inhaled medicines may cause headache during treatment. Seek advice if it is severe or persistent.

Dosage

Overdose

Using too much may cause tremor, fast heartbeat, headache, nausea or worsening breathing symptoms. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

The active ingredient budesonide reduces inflammation and mucus inside the airways. Formoterol relaxes the muscles around the air tubes so air can move more freely. Glycopyrronium helps stop those muscles from tightening, supporting longer-lasting airway opening. Together, the three ingredients control airway symptoms but do not replace the rescue plan for sudden severe breathlessness.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way the Foracort g inhaler works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, mention other inhaled medicines, beta-blockers, medicines affecting heart rhythm, diuretics, other steroids, antifungal medicines, and medicines for glaucoma or urinary problems, because they can alter breathing effects or increase side effects.
