Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or may become pregnant. Use this inhaler during pregnancy only when the expected benefit and possible risks have been assessed.

Breast Feeding

Directions for Use

Use the inhaler exactly as demonstrated by your doctor or pharmacist. Breathe out away from the mouthpiece, seal your lips around it, and inhale through the device as instructed. Do not spray it into the eyes. Clean and store the device as directed, and do not change the prescribed inhaler without advice.

Storage and disposal

Keep the inhaler in its original pack, protected from heat, moisture and direct sunlight. Keep it out of reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date or if the device is damaged, and ask a pharmacist how to dispose of it.

Quick Tips

  • Learn the inhaler technique from a healthcare professional and check it regularly.
  • Keep a separate fast-acting rescue inhaler available if your doctor has prescribed one.
  • Rinse your mouth if your clinician advises this after inhaler use.
  • Seek urgent help for severe breathlessness, chest pain, fainting or blue lips.

Dosage

Overdose

Using too much may cause fast heartbeat, tremor, dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness or worsening breathing symptoms. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Formoterol is a long-acting airway relaxant that helps the muscles around the airways stay open. Tiotropium blocks a nerve signal that can tighten airway muscles and increase secretions. Together, these actions can make breathing easier in the condition for which the inhaler was prescribed.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Fomtrop works or increase unwanted effects. Tell your doctor about all medicines, vitamins and supplements you use. In particular, mention other airway-opening inhalers, beta blockers, water tablets, steroid medicines, medicines that affect heart rhythm, and medicines used for mood or infection.

Interactions with food items

No specific food interaction is established for this combination. Ask your doctor or pharmacist whether alcohol or any supplement needs special consideration.
