Medical Description

Fasenra 30 Injection is a prescription medicine given as an injection under the skin. It contains benralizumab as the active ingredient. It is used as an add-on maintenance treatment for severe asthma with an eosinophilic type (phenotype) in adults. It is also used to treat eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) in adults and hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) without an identifiable non-blood-related secondary cause in adults and children aged 12 years and older. Benralizumab is a monoclonal antibody, a type of protein that recognises and attaches to one particular target in the body. Its target is the interleukin-5 receptor, which is found particularly on a type of white blood cell called an eosinophil. Eosinophils are involved in the inflammation behind these conditions, and by attaching to them benralizumab helps reduce their numbers. Fasenra 30 Injection is given as an injection just under the skin. Your doctor decides the dose, the schedule and how long treatment lasts. Do not stop or reduce your other asthma medicines on your own after starting this treatment. Do not start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine without first speaking to your doctor. If your asthma remains well controlled, your doctor may gradually reduce some of your medicines, especially corticosteroids, under medical supervision. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop signs of an allergic reaction, as these reactions can occur within hours or even days after an injection.

  • Treatment of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (rare condition that causes inflammation of small blood vessels and is often associated with asthma and high eosinophil levels.)i n adults.
  • Treatment of hypereosinophilic syndrome (rare conditions in which eosinophil levels remain unusually high and can cause inflammation or damage to different organs) without an identifiable non-haematologic secondary cause, in patients aged 12 years and older.
