Medical Description

Extensior 0.25mg Injection (original rDNA semaglutide injection) is used along with a healthy diet and regular exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It also helps reduce the risk of serious heart and kidney-related complications in adults with type 2 diabetes who have heart disease or chronic kidney disease. Extensior 0.25mg Injection® is a recombinant form of Semaglutide injection that has undergone extensive clinical studies, demonstrating proven efficacy and safety for patient use.

Extensior 0.25mg Injection is administered as a subcutaneous injection on the abdomen, thigh or upper arm. It is usually administered once a week, with or without food, on the same day each week. Use the medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor and do not change the dose. Follow a healthy diet, exercise regularly, maintain a healthy weight, and monitor your blood sugar levels as recommended to achieve maximum benefits.

The most common side effects of Extensior 0.25mg Injection include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, decreased appetite, and tiredness. Eating smaller meals, avoiding heavy or fatty foods, and drinking plenty of fluids may help reduce stomach-related side effects. Contact your doctor if any side effects persist, become bothersome, or worsen over time.

Extensior 0.25mg Injection is not recommended during pregnancy and should be discontinued at least two months before a planned pregnancy. It should be avoided while breastfeeding. The risk of low blood sugar may increase when it is used together with insulin or certain other antidiabetic medicines.

Use caution if you have severe stomach and intestinal disorders, as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea may lead to dehydration. Extensior 0.25mg Injection is not intended for the treatment of type 1 diabetes. Inform your doctor about all your medical conditions and medicines before starting treatment.

Uses

Uses of Extensior 0.25mg Injection:
  • As an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycaemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus
  • Risk reduction in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and heart disease
  • Risk reduction in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease
Benefits:
  • As an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycaemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Type 2 diabetes is a condition in which the body cannot effectively regulate blood sugar levels. Extensior helps improve blood sugar control by enhancing the body's natural insulin response when blood sugar levels are high. This helps lower elevated blood glucose levels and supports long-term diabetes management.
  • Risk reduction in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and heart disease
People with type 2 diabetes and heart disease have an increased risk of serious cardiovascular complications. Extensior helps reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, and heart-related death. It also helps reduce appetite and support weight loss, which can contribute to overall diabetes management.
  • Risk reduction in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease
Type 2 diabetes can damage the kidneys over time and increase the risk of kidney failure. Extensior helps slow the progression of diabetic kidney disease and reduces the risk of kidney-related complications. Supporting kidney function and protecting against further damage helps improve long-term health outcomes in adults with chronic kidney disease.

How does this medicine work?

  • Extensior 0.25mg Injection (injectable rDNA semaglutide) mimics a naturally occurring hormone called GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1), which plays a key role in regulating blood sugar levels.
  • It stimulates insulin release when needed, reduces excess liver sugar production, and slows stomach emptying, thereby improving blood sugar control. By supporting these processes, Extensior 0.25mg Injection helps improve overall blood sugar management. It also helps reduce the risk of certain heart and kidney complications associated with type 2 diabetes.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Extensior solution for injection can slow stomach emptying, which may affect the absorption of certain oral medications.
  • The risk of hypoglycemia is increased when Extensior solution for injection is used with insulin or insulin secretagogues (e.g., sulfonylureas). A lower dose of insulin or the insulin secretagogue may be needed.
  • It is not recommended to use Extensior solution for injection with other semaglutide-containing products or other GLP-1 receptor agonists.

Interactions with food items

Extensior 0.25mg Injection may be taken with or without food.
