Mode of Action of Epilex 500 MG
How Does It Work?
Sodium valproate is an anticonvulsant that reduces excessive electrical activity in the brain, preventing epileptic seizures.
Directions for Use of Epilex 500 MG
- Take the tablet as prescribed by the doctor
- Do not break, chew or crush the tablet
- Swallow the tablet as a whole
- Take it with or without food as advised by the doctor
Interactions of Epilex 500 MG
Interactions with other medicines
- Sodium valproate, when given with other antipsychotics, MAO inhibitors, antidepressants and benzodiazepines, may potentiate the effects of other psychotropics
- Valproic acid, when co-administered with olanzapine, decreases its serum lithium levels
- Phenobarbital plasma concentration levels increase when administered with sodium valproate
- Sodium valproate increases primidone plasma levels with exacerbation of its adverse effects
- Phenytoin total plasma concentration decreases when co-administered with sodium valproate
- Concomitant use of carbamazepine may potentiate its toxic effect
- Zidovudine toxicity may occur when taken with sodium valproate
- Severe skin rashes may be observed when sodium valproate is used with lamotrigine as it reduces the metabolism of lamotrigine and increases its mean half-life
Storage and disposal of Epilex 500 MG
- Do not store above 25°C
- Store the tablets in the original package
- Keep it in a cool and dry place and protect it from moisture
- Do not flush the expired or unneeded tablets; instead, talk to your pharmacist regarding the safe way to discard them
Dosage of Epilex 500 MG
Overdose
Overdoes might occur if you accidentally consume more than the prescribed dose. You may feel sick, have a headache, have breathing problems, etc.; if any of these symptoms are seen, please get in touch with your doctor or rush to the nearest hospital...
Missed a Dose
If you forgot to take the tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If the next dose is approaching, skip the dose and return to your regular dosage regimen. Do not take two tablets at once.
