Medical Description

Elipran 20mg tablet is a medicine containing eletriptan, which acts as a serotonin 1b and serotonin 1d receptor agonist. It is used to treat headaches like migraine. It works by constricting the blood vessels which helps relieve headache.

Uses

  • Migraine with or without aura

Contraindications

  • Allergy to eletriptan or any other excipient
  • Severe kidney and liver disease
  • Moderate to severe high blood pressure
  • Untreated high blood pressure
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Chest pain (angina)
  • Heart failure
  • Abnormal heartbeats
  • History of stroke
  • Simultaneous administration of 5-HT1 receptor agonists with eletriptan

Directions for Use

  • Elipran 20mg is to be taken orally as directed by the physician

In case of overdose, you may experience dizziness, nausea, or lightheadedness. If you experience these symptoms, visit the nearest hospital or contact your doctor immediately.

Missed a Dose

If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If the next dose is approaching, skip the missing dose. Use your next dose at the same time every day. To catch up, do not increase the dose.

Eletriptan reduces the blood flow in the arteries supplying the brain and stops the release of neuropeptides (nerve cell messengers) to reduce pain.

Interactions with other medicines

  • Propranolol, verapamil and fluconazole, erythromycin, and ketoconazole increased the effects of eletriptan
  • Eletriptan should not be given to patients taking ketoconazole, itraconazole, erythromycin, clarithromycin, josamycin and protease inhibitors within 72 hours of giving these medicines

Interactions with food items

  • Alcoholic beverages may cause dizziness and drowsiness in some patients

  • Triptans and herbal medicines containing St. John's wort can lead to side effects
