Medical Description

Duolin Synchrobreathe Cfc Free metered-dose inhaler is used to relieve breathlessness, wheezing and chest tightness caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It contains a combination of ipratropium bromide and levosalbutamol. Ipratropium reduces signals that tighten the airway muscles, while levosalbutamol relaxes those muscles, widening the airways. The medicine is inhaled through the mouth using the inhaler device as taught, and it is not intended to replace a rescue inhaler for sudden severe breathlessness.

Uses

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: The inhaler opens narrowed airways and relieves breathlessness, wheezing and chest tightness linked with this long-term lung condition.

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. Use Duolin inhaler during pregnancy only when the expected benefit outweighs the possible risk.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Your healthcare professional will decide whether Duolin inhaler is suitable and how to monitor your baby. Do not stop breastfeeding without medical advice.

Driving

Driving

Do not drive if Duolin inhaler causes dizziness, blurred vision, tremor or difficulty concentrating.

Directions for Use

Shake the inhaler well before use. Breathe out gently, place the mouthpiece between your lips and breathe in slowly through your mouth while pressing the canister. Hold your breath briefly, then breathe out. Use exactly as advised by your doctor. Rinse your mouth after use and spit out the water. Do not spray into your eyes. Use your prescribed rescue inhaler for sudden severe breathlessness.

Storage and disposal

Store Duolin inhaler at room temperature away from heat, direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the cap on and keep it out of the reach of children. Do not puncture or burn the canister. Dispose of it according to local instructions when empty.

Quick Tips

  • Shake Duolin inhaler before each use.
  • Use the inhaler technique taught by your healthcare professional.
  • Rinse your mouth after inhaling and spit out the water.
  • Keep the inhaler away from heat and never puncture the canister.

Dosage

Overdose

Excessive inhalation may cause severe tremor, fast heartbeat, chest pain, dizziness, dry mouth or blurred vision. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Levosalbutamol relaxes the muscles surrounding the airways, helping them open. Ipratropium reduces signals that cause the airway muscles to tighten and can lessen airway narrowing. Together, they improve airflow and make breathing easier.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Duolin inhaler works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, beta-blockers may reduce the airway-opening effect or worsen breathing; other inhalers with similar anticholinergic ingredients may increase dry mouth, eye or urinary effects; water tablets or steroids may increase potassium loss and heart-rhythm problems; antidepressants and heart-rhythm medicines may increase heartbeat effects. Also mention medicines for glaucoma or urinary problems.
