Medical Description

Zoldonat Injection is used for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and in men who are at increased risk of fracture, including those with a recent low-trauma hip fracture. It contains zoledronic acid as its active ingredient, which belongs to the bisphosphonates class of medicines. The dose, duration, and frequency of the treatment will be decided by your doctor after assessing your condition. Zoldonat Injection will be given to you at a hospital under the medical supervision of the doctor and nurse. Do not self-inject, and follow any aftercare instructions given by your doctor.

Uses

Treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and in men who are at increased risk of fracture, including those with a recent low-trauma hip fracture.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to zoledronic acid, any other bisphosphonates, or any of the ingredients of Zoldonat Injection. If you have low blood calcium levels (hypocalcaemia) that have not been corrected. During pregnancy. If you are breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with zoledronic acid. Discuss alternative feeding arrangements with your doctor.

Driving

Driving

You may experience dizziness, tiredness, or other symptoms after treatment. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel dizzy, tired, or unwell until you feel able to do so safely.

Alcohol

Alcohol

There is no known interaction between alcohol and Zoldonat Injection. However, alcohol may contribute to dehydration or worsen some treatment-related symptoms. Discuss alcohol consumption with your doctor.

Talk to your doctor if
  • You have low calcium levels, as these should be corrected before treatment.
  • You have or have had kidney problems.
  • You are dehydrated or have difficulty maintaining adequate fluid intake.
  • You have a history of jaw problems or dental disease.
  • You are having dental treatment or are due to undergo dental surgery.
  • You experience unusual signs in the mouth or teeth, such as jaw pain, swelling, loose teeth, or non-healing sores, as these may be signs of osteonecrosis of the jaw.
  • You experience new or persistent pain in the thigh, hip, or groin, as this may rarely indicate an atypical thigh-bone fracture.
  • Maintain good oral hygiene and have regular dental check-ups during treatment.

Directions for Use

Zoldonat Injection will be given in the hospital or clinic by the doctor or nurse as an injection. Do not self-inject the medicine and follow the aftercare instructions given by the doctor or nurse.

Storage and disposal

Zoldonat Injection should be stored in a refrigerator at 2°C–8 °C, but no longer than 24 hours. Keep it away from children and pets.

Dosage

Overdose

Zoldonat Injection will be given to you by a doctor or nurse. Therefore, it is less likely that you will get an overdose of the medicine. If an overdose occurs, your doctor will monitor your kidney function, blood calcium, and other mineral levels and provide appropriate treatment.

Missed a Dose

You will be monitored by the doctor or nurse to determine when Zoldonat Injection should be given to you. If a scheduled dose is missed, contact your doctor or hospital to arrange the next dose. Do not attempt to make up the missed dose yourself.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Some medicines may increase the risk of side effects when used with Zoldonat Injection. Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you take.
  • Medicines that can affect kidney function may increase the risk of kidney problems.
  • Other medicines that lower blood calcium levels may increase the risk of low calcium levels (hypocalcaemia).
  • Do not use another medicine containing zoledronic acid or another bisphosphonate unless specifically advised by your doctor.
