Medical Description

Deponsil tablets belong to a class of medications called tricyclic antidepressants. These are benzodiazepines derivatives. It can treat depression and adjunctive therapy for bedwetting in children of age six years or more. The composition of Deponsil contains a chemical called imipramine. This chemical works by increasing certain chemical substances in nerve cells which helps in lightening and elevating the mood. It is best to take Depsonil tablets before going to bed to reduce its side effects. It should strictly be taken only after a valid prescription by a doctor. Tell your doctor about the history of the diseases or medications you take before using Depsonil tablets. The amount of dose and duration of treatment by Depsonil tablets will be decided by your physician to get the right amount and to control your symptoms in the right way. Though this medication does not have a habit-forming tendency, its sudden discontinuity can cause some people to develop withdrawal symptoms. In that case, always consult your doctor before discontinuing the use of Depsonil tablets. These symptoms have only been reported in patients taking high doses of this medication. Driving

No, it isn’t recommended to drive after taking Depsonil tablets. This medication can cause symptoms like drowsiness which may affect the coordinating ability of an individual. Thus it’s never advised to drive any vehicle or machine after taking Depsonil tablets.

Alcohol

No, it is not advised to do so. Alcohol may reduce the effectiveness of depsonil tablets, and consuming it along with alcohol leads to loss of the coordinating ability of our mind and muscles to concentrate or focus on things. Thus it is advised to avoid alcohol while taking this medication.

Directions for Use

Depsonil tablets are taken with a glass of water.
They are swallowed as a whole and can be taken on an empty stomach.
Do not chew or crush the tablet.

Avoid taking it with alcohol or any other liquor form to get the best results.

Storage and disposal

It should be stored in an airtight container so that it remains away from light, heat and moisture. It should be kept away from the reach of children. Before ingesting, the expiry date should always be checked. It can either be handed over to the recycling department or be thrown along with the biomedical waste for disposing of.

How Does It Work?

Depsonil tablets belong to a derivative of benzodiazepines. It is a tricyclic antidepressant. It chiefly works by affecting our CNS( central nervous system). It acts on two neurotransmitters in our nervous system: serotonin and norepinephrine. It prevents the reuptake of both of these two chemicals. During medical conditions like depression, these two chemicals are imbalanced in our central nervous system; thus, imipramine (the main ingredient of Depsonil tablets) helps balance them. This reduces the symptoms of depression, elevates the patient's mood along with his focus and concentration skills and thus improves the lifestyle of its user. Imipramine has anticholinergic and hypotensive effects. The blood pressure of patients taking this medication should be monitored regularly. Psychological dependence on these medications is rare because their acute effects are unpleasant.

Interactions with other medicines

Depsonil interaction with other medicines include -
Benzodiazepines may result in depression of our central nervous system
Aceclofenac may result in gastrointestinal bleeding
Acemetacin may result in gastric bleeding
Acarbose, when combined with imipramine, may result in decreasing the effectiveness of acarbose.

People with a history of liver disease should be cautious while using this medication. Consultation by a doctor before taking Depsonil tablets is mandatory.
