Medical Description
Depran L Tablet is a prescription medication commonly used for certain mood disorders, anxiety and comorbid depression (depression associated with other conditions). Mood disorders like anxiety, panic, etc., affect the way you feel. Major depressive disorder is also a mood disorder. The reasons behind them are mostly unknown, but it can be because of common triggers like stress, trauma, etc.
Depran L Tablet has two active ingredients: Clonazepam and Escitalopram. Clonazepam is a tranquilliser. It belongs to a class of benzodiazepines (depressants). This medicine helps in stabilising mood and provides a calming effect. Escitalopram is an antidepressant medication. It increases the activity of a chemical substance in the body, which causes happy and well-being feelings.
The dose of the Depran L Tablet should be carefully monitored, especially in older patients, patients with liver and kidney disorders. It should also be monitored because it can cause physical dependence and has habit-forming potential. You should inform your doctor of all the medications you are taking, as their interaction with Depran L can cause undesirable side effects.
Uses
- As per CDSCO, Depran L Tablet is used for,
- Treatment of symptoms associated with comorbid depression (improves mood and general behaviour).
- Treatment of anxiety disorder, panic disorder and other mood disorders.
Contraindications
If you are hypersensitive or allergic to any of the components of the Depran L medication.
If you have a history of alcohol addiction or substance abuse, mental health disorder, severe depression, etc.
If you are already using other anti-anxiety medicines or sedatives. They can cause adverse reactions.
If you have acute or narrow-angle glaucoma (an eye condition with high pressure inside the eye), this medicine further increases the fluid pressure in the eyes.
If you are already pregnant or trying for a pregnancy.
If you have been diagnosed with a liver condition, it may need some dose adjustment.
If you have any heart ailments.
If you are breastfeeding, consult your doctor first.
If you are driving, it can impair your driving ability.

- You are a child below the age of 18, as there are not enough studies on this medicine's safety.
- You have any respiratory/lung diseases, use this medicine with caution.
- You are taking any ayurvedic or herbal medicines and supplements, inform your doctor as some of them can cause serious adverse effects.
- You are trying to do something that requires your focus. This medicine can affect the focus and cause drowsiness.
Directions for Use
- Take the Depran L Tablet in the exact dosage and at the same time every day.
- Do not exceed the dosage of Depran L Tablet, even if you cannot notice its effects.
- Take Depran L Tablet as a whole with a glass of water, without breaking, chewing or crushing it.
- Do not use Depran L Tablet with other medications without informing your doctor.
- Do not discontinue Depran L Tablet abruptly, as it can have unwanted side effects due to withdrawal effects.
Storage and disposal
Store Depran L Tablets in dry conditions and at room temperatures. Keep this medicine away from wet surfaces, direct sunlight, and humid conditions. Keep Depran L Tablets away from children and pets.
Disposal: Dispose of the packaging of this tablet carefully after use. Throw them away if the packaging is already opened. Check the expiration date before taking the Depran L Tablet. Do not use this tablet if it's past the expiration date.

Overdose
- Depran L Tablet overdose can cause dizziness, muscle tremors, irritation, nausea, vomiting, low blood pressure, increased heart rate, sodium and potassium electrolyte imbalance, confusion, sleep disturbances, low reflexes, convulsion and loss of consciousness. If you overdose on Depran L medicine and experience any of these symptoms, immediately seek emergency medical treatment from a hospital close to your place.
Missed a Dose
If you have missed a single dose of the Depran L Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If you recall missing a dose when it's almost the time to take the next Depran L Tablet, skip the missed dose and take the next one. Do not take both tablets together as it can cause an overdose. Talk to your doctor if you have any confusion about the dosage or you have missed multiple doses simultaneously.

How Does It Work?
The active ingredients of Depran L Tablet are escitalopram and clonazepam. Escitalopram is an antidepressant medication. It increases the levels and activity of serotonin by blocking its reuptake by the nerve cells. Serotonin is a chemical messenger in the brain responsible for stabilising mood, causing good feelings, improving behaviour, etc. It can also help in other functions like sleeping, eating, and digestion.
Clonazepam is a tranquilliser medicine. It belongs to the class of benzodiazepines. It increases the activity of GABA (gamma-Aminobutyric acid), a chemical messenger in the brain. GABA reduces the abnormal or excessive activity of nerve cells in certain areas of the brain. It has sedative properties.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Using certain anti-anxiety and mood disorder medications, such as linezolid, moclobemide, selegiline, etc., with the Depran L Tablet can cause severe reactions.
- Do not take other medications that cause drowsiness, such as allergy medicine (cetirizine), cold or cough medicine, opiates or narcotic pain relievers (like codeine, tramadol) with Depran L Tablets. It can increase the adverse effects and cause severe drowsiness.
- If you are already using medicines for seizure disorders (fits), inform your doctor as it can increase the side effects of the Depran L Tablet.
- If you are using other anti-depression medication (like sertraline, paroxetine, etc.), do not use it with a Depran L Tablet without informing your doctor, as they can have severe reactions.
- While using this medicine, avoid taking St. John’s wort (a herbal product). It can increase serotonin levels in your body and cause serious side effects due to serotonin syndrome (serotonin toxicity).
Interactions with food items
- It would be better to avoid drinks such as coffee, tea, and cola or eating a lot of chocolate because these contain caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant and may reduce the calming effects of this medicine.
- Avoid drinking grapefruit juice and cranberry juice, or eating those fruits, while you are taking Depran L Tablets, as they can increase the levels of this medicine in your blood.
