Medical Description
Dacarin injection is a medicine used to treat certain types of cancer, such as metastatic malignant melanoma, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and some sarcomas. It contains dacarbazine as an active ingredient. It works by slowing down or stopping the growth of cancer cells. It does this by blocking how cancer cells make DNA, which they need to grow and multiply. This helps prevent the cancer from spreading further in the body.
This medicine is always given by a doctor or nurse through a vein in a hospital setting. You should not receive Dacarin injection if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have serious liver or kidney problems. It is also not suitable for people with very low white blood cell or platelet counts. Your doctor will decide if this medicine is right for you.
Some common side effects of this medication include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, anaemia, and low blood cell counts, which can increase your risk of infections or bleeding. You may also feel tired or experience flu-like symptoms. Pain, swelling, or redness at the injection site may occur, and you should notify your doctor if any side effects become severe or unusual.
Dacarin injection may interact with other medications, including those used to treat epilepsy (such as phenytoin), blood thinners (like warfarin), and other cancer or immune-suppressing treatments. You should avoid live vaccines during and after treatment, as your immune system may be weakened. It should never be used with fotemustine due to the risk of serious lung problems. Alcohol should also be avoided during treatment, and both men and women must use effective contraception during and for several months after treatment, as it may harm fertility or an unborn baby.
This medicine is stored at a temperature below 25°C, away from heat and light, and out of the reach of children and pets. Because it is given in a medical setting, missed doses or overdoses are unlikely, but if you feel unwell after treatment, especially with vomiting, seizures, or allergic reactions, you should contact your doctor immediately. Dacarin injection is not recommended for children and may affect your ability to drive or operate machines, especially if you feel dizzy or sick after receiving it.

Directions for Use
- Dacarin injection will be given to you in the hospital by your doctor or nurse. Do not self-inject this medicine.

- Other cancer treatments or radiation may increase the risk of bone marrow damage.

- If you use blood thinners like warfarin, this medication can affect how your blood clots. You may need more blood tests.
- Avoid live vaccines (like MMR or yellow fever) during and after treatment, as they can cause serious infections.
- Cyclosporine or tacrolimus (used to weaken the immune system) can be dangerous when taken with this medication.
- Never take fotemustine with Dacarin injection. The combination can cause serious lung problems.
